  4. Sun and Shield “For the LORD God is a sun and shield; The LORD will give grace and glory; No good thing will He withhold From those who walk uprightly. O LORD of hosts, Blessed is the man who trusts in You! Psalms 84:11-12(NKJV)

  5. God Sun and Shield Sufferer - in darkness Light for guidance Shield for protection Will give grace and glory Walk uprightly

  6. God Sun and Shield “He is my refuge and my fortress” Ps.91:2 “He only is my rock and my salvation: he is my defence: I shall not be moved.” Ps.62:6

  7. Causes of Suffering “Man that is born of a woman is of few days, and full of trouble.” Job 14:1 “Yet man is born unto trouble, as the sparks fly upward.” Job 5:7 “For all his days are sorrows, and his travail grief; yea, his heart taketh not rest in the night.” Eccl. 2:23

  8. Causes of Suffering • A Dilemma • Suffering is present • God is Good but weak • God is strong but not good

  9. Causes of Suffering • A Dilemma - Answer • Man has ability to choose • Placed in garden • Violated God’s command • Death – suffering and sorrow

  10. Causes of Suffering Could be Result of our own actions World governed by natural laws Violate - then consequences We live in a sinful world 1 Cor. 15:21 Result of our own sin Galatians 5:19-21

  13. Why do Christians Suffer ? Exempt ? Christians for wrong motive Rom. 6:17 obey from the heart Could not sympathize with others Keeps this world from becoming too attractive

  14. Benefits of Suffering • Helps to know self • Proper set of values • Helps us to be thankful • Helps avoid self-pity • See the value of prayer • Blessing not to see the future

  15. Prepare for Suffering • Understand that it comes to all • Think of the benefits • God knows us individually • God requires us to be faithful • Christ prays for us

  16. Prepare for Suffering • Recognize the place of prayer • Make daily life a walk with Jesus • Live just one day at a time • God will not allow us to be tempted above that which we are able to bear

  17. Prepare for Suffering • Endure by Bible reading • Remember the example of Job • Always choose suffering over sin What A Friend We have In Jesus
