  2. What Was The Meeting? • All NWS field managers with National and Regional HQ staff, April 19-23, 2010 • Regional and National Plenary Sessions • Poster, Training and Breakout sessions

  3. Why The Meeting? • Last held in 2001 • New NOAA and NWS Strategic Plans • Stressed need for change based on external needs and drivers

  4. Agenda Overview • Leadership overview and Partner Roundtable • Strategic presentations for “Services 2020” • Breakout Groups – direct feedback to Leadership • Training in communications and leadership; exposure to social science

  5. Actions and Pilot Projects • From plenary feedback and breakout groups • Actions framed by Strategic Plan elements • Pilot projects to consider how to enhance service • A focus on Human Capital is also critical to success

  6. Improve Weather Decision Support • Services: Focus on impact & expression of uncertainty to support decision making • Consistency: Provide a common operating picture • Partner Coordination: Ensure continued dialogue as we go

  7. Enhance Water Services • Implement Integrated Water Resources Science and Services (IWRSS) - Ensure system interoperability and data integration - Provide common operating picture - Leverage federal investments • Inundation mapping for fresh water service locations and coastal zones

  8. Broaden Climate Infrastructure • In-reach: Increase workforce knowledge of climate science • Outreach: Develop web- based education module for the public • Sharing: Develop central, web-based resource to share local, regional, national climate-based research

  9. Explore New and Integrated Partnerships • DOE: How can they utilize NOAA data to support alternative energy needs? • FHWA: Providing road observations to WFOs • NOAA Fisheries: Integrate our data into interdisciplinary models and forecasts

Summary • At over 40 actions - our work is cut out for us! • Actions will be pursued in concert with “Services 2020” development • We will ask for your input, participation and feedback as we pursue pilot projects • Goal is service improvement to support decision making, our partners and the public
