  2. The VITAL system • Virginia Improves Teaching and Learning • Teacher Pipeline Application (TPA) • Survey System • Reporting and Analysis Tools

  3. TPA overview • The TPA is a core collection mechanism for marking students entry into the Teacher Pipeline • All VA teacher education programs submit unit record data individually • TPA data are the foundation for the Survey System and the reporting and analysis tools that were created.

  4. TPA functionality • Submission of unit record data via • Bulk upload (Excel, Access, or Text templates) or • Use of HTML forms (one record at a time) • Institutional review and validation • Data are then locked for use in • Reports • Surveys • DCT

Survey system overview • The Survey System is key to longitudinal tracking of teachers in the pipeline both during and after their preparation program • Goes beyond the unit record data collection to give contextual information about teacher preparation programs, mentorship, employment, working conditions, and employer satisfaction • Helps teacher preparation programs collect data on School-University Partnerships for required reporting

  27. Reporting and analysis • TPA report functionality offers users immediate access to their unit record data • Users can review & validate the data they have entered • Create CSV files to use in Mail Merges • Run standard push button reports, and • Generate custom institution reports

Reporting and analysis • The Dataset Cutting Tool (DCT) provides users the ability to access all VITAL data • TPA unit record data • Survey system data • Users select a primary data source • All available VITAL data selected then join to this primary data source • Data available for analysis in SPSS, SAS, Access, Excel and CSV
