  1. Projectile Lab – Ball in Can I want you to set up the inclined plane and calculate the horizontal velocity of the ball rolling through .5m of table top. Do this for 4 trials. Take the average of the 4 velocities._________________equation Measure the height of the table. _________________(m) Use this height to calculate the time it would take a ball to fall to the ground if dropped from the same height as the table. _________________equation ________________seconds Using your info from #1 and #3, calculate the range of the ball. ________________equation _______________meters Set up your can at the calculated distance. Put down a magazine under the can so the ball doesn’t damage the tile. 5. Did your ball make it in the can? 6. If no, how far were you off? 7. Why do you think you missed the can?

  2. Try various size balls. Once again, use the steps to calculate the range. 8. What kind of ball are you using?______________________ Calculate the horizontal velocity using your ramp (DON’T CHANGE THE HEIGHT) 9. Measure the height of the table. _________________(m) 10. Use this height to calculate the time it would take a ball to fall to the ground if dropped from the same height as the table. _________________equation ________________seconds 11. Using your info from #1 and #3, calculate the range of the ball. ________________equation _______________meters Set up your can at the calculated distance. Put down a magazine under the can so the ball doesn’t damage the tile. Did your ball make it in the can? Was the range different from the first trial? Explain why or why not?

  3. Repeat the lab with a third ball. For a final time, use the steps to calculate the range. 14. What kind of ball are you using?______________________ Calculate the horizontal velocity using your ramp (DON’T CHANGE THE HEIGHT) 15. Measure the height of the table. _________________(m) 16. Use this height to calculate the time it would take a ball to fall to the ground if dropped from the same height as the table. _________________equation ________________seconds 17. Using your info from #1 and #3, calculate the range of the ball. ________________equation _______________meters Set up your can at the calculated distance. Put down a magazine under the can so the ball doesn’t damage the tile. 18. Did your ball make it in the can? 19. Was the range different from the first two trials? Explain why or why not? 20. Create a hypothesis that relates various kinds of objects and the range.
