In December 2012, Tonacliffe Primary School launched its Walk to School Initiative to encourage physical activity among students. Before the initiative, only 31.5% of children walked to school. After implementing the initiative with engaging prizes, walking rates soared to 69.2% by the end of the summer term—an impressive increase of nearly 38%! Students reported enjoying the exercise, increased social interactions, and a safer school environment with reduced car traffic. Winners of the initiative's prizes included sports vouchers and bags.

Tonacliffe Primary School’s Walk To School Initiative Improving Physical Activity
In December 2012, before the Walk To School initiative started 31.5% of children walked to school. When the initiative was put in place, children were encouraged to walk to school through winning prizes. At the end of the summer term 69.2% of children walked to school. This meant that the amount of children walking to school improved by nearly 38% and physical activity at Tonacliffe improved! Well done everyone! Mrs Sutcliffe
