  2. What Is Dwarfism? Dwarfism is a genetic disorder, the term being used to describe a person of short stature. It is sometimes defined as a person with an adult height under 4 feet 10 inches.

  3. How Is it Diagnosed?Doctors are able to diagnose most cases of achondroplasia even before a baby is born with an ultrasound in the later stages of pregnancy.

  4. During birth, babies that are born with this deficiency are very small in weight, also their growth does not take place at a normal rate. During Birth.

  5. Causes. • Dwarfism can result from a myriad of medical conditions, each with its own separate symptoms and causes.

  7. Treatment Treatment involves growth hormone injections given at home. Patients may receive growth hormone several times a week or once a day.

  8. The Growing Years. Growth continues at a stunted rate, leaving individuals with primordial dwarfism perpetually years behind their peers in size.

  9. Living With Dwarfism. Most people with dwarfism have normal life spans and intelligence. They lead full lives, marry, have children, and participate in numerous career fields.

  10. The most common causes of dwarfism; • Achondroplasia • Diastrophic Dysplasia • Spondyloepiphyseal Dysplasia's (SED)

  11. As children with dwarfism grow, they may show other signs as well, such as: • Delayed development of some motor skills • A greater susceptibility to ear infections • Weight problems • Curvature of the spine • Bowed legs • Trouble with joint flexibility • Crowding of teeth in the jaw

  12. Dwarfism is not: • An intellectual disability. A person who has dwarfism is typically of normal intelligence. • A reason to assume someone is incapable. • A Disease that requires a “cure”.
