3. Nick Fury is director of S.H.I.E.L.D, an international peace keeping agency. The agency is a who's who of Marvel Super Heroes, with Iron Man, The Incredible Hulk, Thor, Captain America, Hawkeye and Black Widow. When global security is threatened by Loki and his cohorts, Nick Fury and his team will need all their powers to save the world from disaster.

4. Avengers Trailer Analysis One of the many high angle shots used through out the trailer. This shot is an establishing shot, this sets the scene as Manhattan, New York City, setting the location for the rest of the film. This shot has a powerful soundtrack, which resembles the characters in the film, and the end of each shot the music fades out and blasts back in. The shot gives the audience an idea of what the movie is about. There is no voice over used in this shot however later on in the trailer Nick Fury starts to talk about the plan and ‘The Avengers initiative’. This shot is a low angle shot also giving the audience an understanding of what happens through out the movie. The sound is loud then fades out. This shot shows that the earth is under attack as debris falls from the sky. The shot makes you feel a part of the film and you start to think and believe that debris will drop on top of you. No characters are yet shown, this leaving the element of surprise for younger viewers and people who don't know much about the Avengers or superheroes. Nick Fury does a voice over, starting here, he says ‘War has started…’. Again the location is Manhattan, New York, this location is used often throughout the trailer as it is where the war kicks off. This location suits the movie well as it is a vibrant full of life city and is used in many superhero movies , thus making the setting feel familiar to the audience and creating a sense of being there. This shot is one of the many panning shots used throughout the trailer. The location of this shot is the aircraft, which is one of the key locations during the movie. The main character of this shot is Nick Fury. He is the one who set up the plan to bring together the superheroes. The camera uses a background defocus to emphasise Nick Fury's importance. The sound used in this shot is Fury’s voice, he says ‘…and we are hopelessly out-gunned’. This gets the audience thinking about what will happen to the characters, will they survive?

5. Avengers Trailer Analysis This shot is an over the shoulder shot, which gives a sense of depth. This also crates a sense of realism for the audience, which makes them feel as though they are a part of the film. The sound is diegetic as there is lots of loud gunfire and explosions happening in this scene. This in turn gives the audience the sense of being there – in the middle of all the action and the sound effects help to deliver an all round feel for the atmosphere of the movie. To keep the audience engaged the use of a low angle shot adds an interesting dimension to the overall viewing experience. The audience’s eyes will focus on the lower left of the shot and then follow the pillar up into the dome shaped roof. A clever move as it gives the illusion of the space being much bigger than it really is. During the shot a use of diegetic sound is used by Agent Coulson who says ‘Director Fury…’ .The use of non-diegetic background sound adds atmosphere to the shot and a sense of something un toward happening. This tells the audience what studio produced the film, this may interest people more if they prefer Marvel films over DC ones. The logo is instantly recognisable and avid fans would only need a brief glimpse of this to appreciate the movies origins. Having a small piece of text in a larger expanse of such a bold colour reinforces the message of this movie with a set purpose and goal … that of saving the world. A strong background non diegetic sound further enhances the message set out.

6. Avengers Trailer Analysis This shot tells the audience who distributed the film. This in itself brings a certain reputation with it and as such viewers will expect a high quality, well made and interesting film. The same bold and striking background sound was used as the previous shot. This shot shows the first superhero and the first Avenger of the movie. This is Captain America who appears to be training for the war. However, he does not actually find out about the war until later. This shot gives the audience the appearance of superheroes always being prepared and ready for the unexpected. The shot is located in a gym which would have existed in the time period when this Avenger first came about. One of the many ways in which the viewers are given historical details relating to the characters through the use of locations and attention to details. Thereby adding to the overall sense of many coming together as one united front. Another high angle shot of Thor’s Hammer. This reminds the audience of this character and their addition to the Avengers. Set in a forest the location adds to Thor’s lack of belonging within the Avengers. A powerful visualisation of Thor’s Hammer, The … intensifies the sheer strength needed to move it as was the case with the sword in the stone. Later in the film when Hulk and Thor fight, Hulk could not move it again reinforcing the power of Thor over his weapon and the need to do good.

7. Avengers Trailer Analysis This is also set in New York and it is clear that this is Ironman as the logo all lit up is representative of Tony Stark. The use of lighting against the night sky adds to the extravagant nature of this character and the powerful non-diegetic sound intensifies this scene for the audience. This shot tells people when the film is coming out, this is usually followed by a list of credit of the major producers and actors. This is a powerful shot and one which the viewers will have been waiting for. It serves well to increase and heighten the sense of anticipation and the expectation that is a movie worth waiting for. This is a panning shot that pans around the whole Avengers team. This shows the audience who is include in the film. Hulks roar is the sound used in this shot. In this shot there are many layers given to the viewer. In the first instance the characters are all stood in a circle symbolising unity and oneness, as a circle has no beginning and end nor do their collective powers. The second is that all characters are facing outwards signifying a sense of protection towards each other and covering each others backs. The pace of the soundtrack quickens and loud thuds are faster as they symbolise the heart beats intensifying with the threat of imminent danger.

8. Avengers Trailer Analysis The title of the film is a key part in any movie trailer, as it tell the audience what the film is called. This is generally placed towards the end of a trailer and in the case of this movie is the last reminder of the movie name. It’s position allows for the viewer to remember the name and by this point the audience will have made up their mind as to whether or not to watch the movie. Just in case there is any doubt the producers ensure a last minute reminder of one the most key points in the movie remains as the last image we see. In this shot we see an extreme close-up of Tony Starks face which shows all of his facial expressions as he encounters various things. His gaze is incredibly focussed on destroying anything in his path that is out to harm Earth. He is backed up by the ultra high tech suit equipped for every eventuality and every battle. The sound is diegetic and he says ‘Guy’s, I’m bringing the party to you.’ Once again highlighting his importance and position within the team, someone who wants to lead. This scene is shot high in the skies and he has become the target of the invading alien creatures. The viewer is taken to new heights (quite literally) in their viewing experiences as they see things from many different angle shots and perspectives. Again the background diegetic sounds adds to the overall atmosphere of the viewing experience.
