Mathematical Devlopment • Sorting and ordering items from the beach, size, length, shape, colour, magnetic • Counting shells, pebbles, buckets • Capacity - Filling buckets, full/empty • Investigating patterns and relationships • Money in fish shop/ice cream van • Recording numbers in the sand • Fishing for numbers in the water • Counting creatures in the rock pool/coins in sand • Number songs and rhymes, 1,2,3,4,5 etc • Collect and interpret data Other Activities Visit the beach Tasting fish, crab, cockles Pirate P.E. • During the project pupils will learn about: • Plants and animals that live on the seashore • Man made and natural features and materials • Natural features, hills, beaches, roads & bridges • Names of some costal towns and beach resorts in Wales • Properties of natural materials found on the seashore • Pollution • Artefacts, including fossils, crabs, birds and eggs. • Magnetic and non magnetic items. • Learn about the locality • Develop awareness of distance and follow directions & routes • Creating and using simple maps • PSE • SEAL – • Values - • Rules and safety at the seaside • Dangers of litter and pollution to beaches • Try something new, take risks & become confident learners • Develop interest & curiosity of the world around them • Turn taking and sharing • Making choices and evaluating learning (self & peer) • Respond to ideas & questions enthusiastically, creatively & sensitively. • Language, Literacy and Communication. • Oracy– Talking about their experiences, retelling stories, asking questions and following instructions • Learn songs, poems and rhymes about the seashore • Different sounds at the seaside • Developing language and vocabulary associated with the seaside • Small world beach, imaginative play, fish shop/ice cream van role play • Reading - Stories, poems and songs about the seaside • Holiday brochures • Postcards • Maps/signs • Writing – Mark making in the sand • Writing postcards and letters • Writing as part of role play • Labelling and matching items Nursery The Beach Spring Term 2014 Miss L Copp We were wondering….
