  3. The Colorado House S • This is what we imagined the house to be like. • Colorado house in the mountains where the kids that are genetically engineered live (Max, Iggy, Angel, Gasman, Nudge, and Fang) live.

  4. S The School • This is a picture of what we thought “The School” would look like. • The School is the genetic engineering lab that “mutated” the kids. The School is located Death Valley, California, and the Badwater Basin.

  5. New York • This is a picture New York with Batman right here. • The Flock goes to New York after escaping The School. The Institute is the headquarters for The School. The Institute has all the records of The Flock, so they want to go there.

  7. C Max a.k.a. Maximum Ride • This is a picture of Max from the comic book series Maximum Ride. • Max is the leader of a group that calls themselves “The Flock”. The Flock includes Max, Fang, Iggy, Nudge, Gazzy, and Angel, all of which are kids who were mutated at The School. Max is the oldest member of The Flock, and a major character. Max is also dynamic because she changes much through the book. Max is a protagonist.

  8. C Fang • This is a picture of Fang from the comic book series Maximum Ride. • Fang is the second oldest member of The Flock, being only 4 months younger than Max. Fang is a major character in the book. Fang picks up on details most other characters would miss. Fang is a dynamic character because he changes in the book. Fang is also a protagonist, being a member of The Flock.

  9. Iggy C • This is a picture of Iggy from the comic book series Maximum Ride. • Iggy is the blind member of The Flock. Iggy is the third oldest member of The Flock, being only 6 months younger than Max. Iggy is a dynamic character because he changes throughout the course of the story. Iggy is also a major character, being a member of The Flock. Therefore, he is also a protagonist.

  10. Nudge C • This is a picture of Nudge from the comic book series Maximum Ride. • Nudge is the third youngest member of The Flock. Nudge is a dynamic character because she changes in the book. Nudge talks a lot, and has a profound longing for parents. Nudge becomes a vegetarian after Fang pulls a prank on her. Nudge is a major character and a protagonist.

  11. Gazzy a.k.a. The Gasman C • This is a picture of Gazzy from the comic book series Maximum Ride. • Gazzy is the older brother of Angel, and is a protagonist because he is a member of The Flock. Gazzy is 8 years old, and has light blond hair. Gazzy is a dynamic character because he changes throughout the book. Gazzy is also a major character and he can imitate voices.

  12. C Angel • This is a picture of Angel from the comic book series Maximum Ride. • Angel is the youngest member of The Flock being on 6 years old. Angel’s older brother is Gazzy. Angel can read and control minds. Angel is a major character because she is a member of The Flock. Angel is a dynamic character because she changes through the book. Angel is a protagonist.

  13. Jeb Batchelder C • This is a picture of Jeb from the comic book series Maximum Ride. • Jeb Batchelder is the scientist from The School who rescued The Flock. Jeb is a static character in the book because he does not change. Jeb is also the father of Ari, the Eraser. Jeb an antagonist in the book. Jeb is also a minor character because he does not play a big role in the book.

  14. Ari Batchelder C • This is a picture of Ari from the comic book series Maximum Ride. • Ari is Jeb’s son who was a captive at The School. When Jeb rescued The Flock from The School, Ari was left behind. Ari was turned into an Eraser (half man half wolf) at the age of 7. Ari is killed by Max in the book. Ari is a major character because he plays a big role in the book. Ari is a static character, and an antagonist.

F Imagery • “… and almost simultaneously a sudden, searing pain my left shoulder.” (p. 70) • “Not to mention the severe beaks, sharply curved and mean-looking.” (p.75) • “He wore wire-rimmed glasses and was smiling at her.” (p. 116) • “… as the heavy lidded eight-year old slumped to the table.” (p. 10)

  24. P Exposition • The Flock grows up in The School • Jeb rescues The Flock and takes them away to where they can’t be found • Jeb teaches The Flock survival skills • Jeb goes missing

  25. P Rising Action • Angel is abducted • Max, Fang, and Nudge go to rescue Angel, while Iggy and Gazzy stay home • Iggy and Gazzy make defenses at the house, including an oil-slick, and a bomb • Erasers comes to the house, and their car gets crashed by the oil-slick • Erasers chase Iggy and Gazzy to a shack, then Iggy and Gazzy escape by the bomb blowing up Erasers.

  26. P Rising Action (cont.) • Max decides to save a girl (Ella) from being picked on • Max gets shot by a kid (Jose) with a shotgun, in the right shoulder • Max goes to Ella’s house and asks for medical help • Ella’s mom helps Max get better and then takes her to get an X-ray • Max finds out she has a tracer chip in her • Angel finds out Jeb is alive • Nudge decides to contact her parents, and gets in a fight with Erasers

P Rising Action (cont.) • Iggy and Gazzy fly towards where Fang and Nudge are • Max, Fang, Iggy, Gazzy, and Nudge all meet up together • Max, Fang, Iggy, Gazzy, and Nudge go to free Angel • Max, Fang, Iggy, Gazzy, and Nudge get in a car chase with Erasers • Max, Fang, and Nudge get captured • Jeb tells Max that she is supposed to save the world

  28. P Rising Action (cont.) • The Flock escapes The School and heads to New York, New York • Max has brainattacks along the way, and starts hearing a voice in her head • Eraser’s dressed as cops chase them to a church • The Flock hides in a church for sanctuary • The Flock hides in the sewers • Max gets a message in a brain attack

  29. P Rising Action (cont.) • Max knows where to find The Institute, and leads The Flock there • The Flock breaks into The Institute and finds records • Max prints off the records on The Flock • The Flock rescues other mutated kids, and flees

  30. P Climax • Max gets in a fight with Ari • Max breaks Ari’s neck, kills him and escapes

  31. P Falling Action • As the mutated kids run out of The Institute • Jeb calls after them “You killed your brother!” • Angel decides to keep a mutated puppy that can jump 8 feet high • Fang, Iggy, Nudge, Gazzy, and Angel find files on themselves

  33. TR Theme and Resolution • Genetic Engineering is the theme • The resolution is that The Flock is free

  34. C Conflicts

  35. C Conflicts • Angel gets kidnapped and is taken to the school. Angel tries to resist the scientists at the school, until the rest of “The Flock” rescues her. (character vs. society) • Nudge sees a sign that is the town where parents live, and she argues with Fang to go see them. (character vs. character) • Max and Ari fight constantly throughout the book, and this conflict is resolved by Max breaking Ari’s neck and killing him. (character vs. character)
