  3. What is an artificial sweetener? • Sweetener used instead of regular table sugar • According to Mayo Clinic, artificial sweeteners are synthetic sugar substances, including herbs or sugar itself. • Intense sweetener • Found in many processed foods

  4. Common Types of artificial sweeteners • Saccharin • Sweet & Low • 1879 • Aspartame • NurtraSweet or Equal • 1965 • FDA approval in 1981 • Approved for use in carbonated beverages in 1983 • Sucralose • Splenda • WHEN WAS IT DISCOVERED
