BUSINESS OPPORTUNITIES • HIGH PERFORMANCE COMPANIES EXIST IN ‘UNATTRACTIVE’ INDUSTRIES • WILLINGNESS TO BENCHMARK, NOT AGAINST THE AVERAGE OR THE COMPARABLE, BUT AGAINST THE BEST. • LN MITTAL ENTERING INTO STEEL INDUSRY, WHEN IT WAS THE WORST • A COMPANY CAN ACHIEVE OUTSTANDING PERFORMANCE EVEN WHEN ITS INDUSTRY IS SHRINKING

  9. COMMON PROBLEMS .. • MY BEST ENGINEERS ARE JUMPING • MORALE HAS BEEN DESTROYED • NO ONE TRUSTS THE MANAGEMENT • TEAMWORK IS THING OF PAST • WHAT SHOULD TAKE TWO MONTHS IS TAKING TWO YEARS • “PEOPLE ARE WALKING AS THOUGH THEY ARE WALKING INTO A SLAUGHTER HOUSE”

SOME BASICS .. • COMPANIES DON’T PERFORM AT THEIR PEAK WHEN THEIR LEADERS ARE UNSKILLED AND UNWISE • ALL FAILURES, WHETHER IN BUSINESS WORLD OR IN ONES PERSONAL LIFE, COULD BE TRACED BACK TO A FAILURE IN LEADERSHIP • GREAT ORGANISATIONS BEGIN WITH GREAT LEADERS • EVERY GREAT LEADER HAS BOLD DREAMS

  11. LEADERSHIP • LEADERSHIP IS ALL ABOUT FOCUSED ACTION IN THE DIRECTION OF A WORTHY PURPOSE • TO LEAD IS TO INSPIRE, ENERGISE AND INFLUENCE • LEADERSHIP IS NOT ABOUT MANAGING THINGS BUT ABOUT DEVELOPING PEOPLE

VISIONARY LEADER • VISIONARY LEADERS ARE THOSE WHO UNDERSTAND THAT THE TRUE ASSETS OF ANY ORGANISATION GO UP THE LIFT IN THE MORNING AND DOWN IT EVERY NIGHT. • LEADERSHIP IS ABOUT HELPING PEOPLE TO LIBERATE THE FULLNESS OF THEIR TALENTS WHILE THEY PURSUE THE VISION OF THE COMPANY AND STILL ACHIEVE THEIR PERSONAL GOALS.

  13. SUCCESS STORY.. • THE TASK OF A LEADER IS TO GET HIS PEOPLE FROM WHERE THEY ARE TO WHERE THEY HAVE NEVER BEEN • ONCE YOU SURRENDER TO YOUR VISION, SUCCESS BEGINS TO CHASE YOU. ULTIMATELY, YOU CAN’T PURSUE SUCCESS, SUCCESS ENSUES. IT FLOWS AS THE UNIENTENTIONAL BY-PRODUCT OF EFFECTIVE EFFORTS CONCENTRATED IN THE DIRECTION OF A WORTHY PURPOSE

VISION INSPIRES • MANUFACTURE A CRYSTAL-CLEAR BLUEPRINT OR PICTURE OF THE COMPANY WILL LOOK LIKE IN THE COMING YEARS. • INTIMATELY KNOW THE EXACT NATURE OF THE SUCCESS THAT THE COMPANY AND THEIR PEOPLE ARE STRIVING FOR • EVERY STEP IS DESIGNED TO MOVE THE COMPANY CLOSER TO THEIR VIVIDLY IMAGINED FUTURE

MOTIVATOR .. • VISION MUST EXCITE THE MINDS AND TOUCH THE HEARTS OF PEOPLE. • PEOPLE WILL GO FAR BEYOND THE CALL OF DUTY WHEN THEIR LEADER PAINTS FOR THEM A FUTURE VISION THAT IS COMPELLING AND IMPORTANT. • PURPOSE IS THE MOST POWERFUL MOTIVATOR IN THE WORLD. • THERE IS NO SUCH THING AS AN UNMOTIVATED PERSON, ONLY AN UNMOTIVATED EMPLOYEE

INCORRECT VISION STATEMENT “TO BE PREFERRED SUPPLIER OF OUR CUSTOMERS, TO CREATE HIGH QUALITY PRODUCTS AND TO GROW INTO A FIVE-BILLION-DOLLAR COMPANY WITHIN FIVE YEARS” CEO, GLOBAL VIEW, SOFTWARE FOR HEALTH CARE PRODUCT • CAN THIS MOTIVATE AND INSPIRE PEOPLE TO GIVE THEIR BEST TO THE COMPANY? • IT HAS NO EMOTIONAL IMPACT ON THE AVERAGE PERSON WITH THE COMPANY

REDEINED VISION STATEMENT “ GLOBAL VIEW IS PASSIONATELY COMMITTED TO SAVING THE LIVES OF MEN, WOMEN AND CHILDREN BY PROVIDING OUR RESPECTED CUSTOMERS WITH CUTTING EDGE, HIGH-VALUE SOFTWARE THAT ALLOWS THEM TO BRILLIANTLY SERVE THEIR PATIENT’S NEEDS. OVER FIVE-YEAR GOAL IS TO SAVE THE LIVES OF OVERIVE MILLION PEOPLE AND MAKE A SIGNIFICANT AND LASTING IMPACT ON THE HEALTH-CARE INDUSTRY”

  18. POWER OF PURPOSE • THE PURPOSE OF EVERYONE IS STRIVING TOWARD IS A GOOD ONE AND A JUST ONE AND AN HONOURABLE ONE. • WE NEED TO INSTILL A SENSE OF PASSION WITHIN OUR PEOPLE BY ENGAGING THEIR HEARTS AND MINDS THROUGH POWER OF PURPOSE.

CONNECT PEOPLE TO PURPOSE • LINK PAYCHEQUE TO PURPOSE • CONNECT PEOPLE TO A CAUSE HIGHER THAN THEMSELVES • PEOPLE WILL START TO FEEL GOOD ABOUT WHAT THEY ARE DOING • WHEN PEOPLE FEEL GOOD ABOUT THE WORK THEY DO, THEY WILL BEGIN TO FEEL GOOD ABOUT THEMSELVES AS PEOPLE. • THAT’S WHEN REAL BREAKTHROUGH START TO HAPPEN.

  20. DON’T BLAME PEOPLE “ ALL MY PEOPLE CARE ABOUT IS GETTING THEIR PAY. THEY COULDN’T CARE LESS ABOUT THE COMPANY OR THE VISION IT HAS” • STOP BLAMING YOUR PEOPLE FOR YOUR LEADERSHIP FAILURES • IF PEOPLE HAVEN’T BOUGHT IN TO YOUR VISION, IT’S BECAUSE THEY HAVEN’T BOUGHT IN TO YOUR LEADERSHIP

  21. LOYALTY CAN’T BE BOUGHT • IF THEY ARE NOT LOYAL, IT’S BECAUSE YOU HAVE NOT GIVEN THEM ENOUGH REASONS TO BE LOYAL • IF THEY ARE NOT PASSIONATE ABOUT THEIR WORK, IT’S BECAUSE YOU HAVE FAILED TO GIVE THEM SOMETHING TO BE PASSIONATE ABOUT. • GREAT LEADERSHIP PRECEDES GREAT FOLLOWERSHIP.

  22. INDIVIDUAL MATTERS • PEOPLE WHO FEEL SUPERB ABOUT THEMSELVES GENERATE SUPERB RESULTS • COMPANY SHOULD BECOME A PLACE OF OPPORTUNITY FOR SELF-DEVELOPMENT AND PERSONAL FULFILLMENT • WHEN PEOPLE WORK AND LIVE AT THEIR HIGHEST LEVELS, THE COMPANY WOULD AUTOMATICALLY ACHIEVE TURNOVER AND PROFITS

  23. WORDS OF APPRECIATION • WHEN YOU HONOUR EMPLOYEES, THEY WILL COME TO HONOUR YOU • MOST PEOPLE GO TO BED HUNGRY EVERY SINGLE NIGHT OF THEIR LIVES. HUNGRY FOR A LITTLE RECOGNITION AND SINCERE APPRECIATION FOR THEIR EFFORTS. • THE SOONER YOU REWARD A GOOD DEED, THE MORE LIKELY IT WOULD BE REPEATED. • THE WAY YOU TREAT YOUR EMPLOYEES DETERMINES THE WAY THEY WILL YOUR CUSTOMERS.

  25. LULL BEFORE A STORM • IMMEDIATELY BFORE A GREAT VICTORY, ONE WILL OFTEN EXPERIENCE SOME FORM OF DIFFICULTY. THE KEY IS TO MAINTAIN YOUR FOCUS AND KEEP ON BELIEVING
