New Member Orientation • CenTex Section – Austin / San Antonio & the Great Divide • Proposal. • Define “new” members, project shareholders, project details and outcome expected. • Purpose • Establish interactive communication with new CTS members. • Introduce new members to local IEEE activities. • Provide a view of the vast resources of IEEE • Establish a long term relationship with the local IEEE Community.

  8. New Member Orientation Project • Direct mail/email campaign • Social Mixer/Speaker meeting • Web-based survey • Recognize new members in Section newsletter

  9. Peer-to-peer (“buddy”) program Use SAMIEEE to extract info on new members ID members willing to reach out (phone, email, both) Max. 5 per volunteer Supply contact data Ask for report back after contact Follow-up New Member Orientation Project

  12. New Member Orientation - Ask The Section asked entities of IEEE to • Endorse this as a demonstration project. • Provide guidance, if needed. • Support the project – technically and financially, as needed.

  14. Why? • First-ever “regional” forum • Central Texas is a center of technology recognized worldwide • Benefit members • Opportunity for pros/cons & dialog • Asked to

  16. Where? • Austin • University or Hotel venue

  17. How? • Employ event specialist • Engage volunteers • Engage other organizations (e.g. AeA, ATC)

What? • One-day event • Panel, single-track, symposium-type format • education(K-12 education; math & sciences teachers; diversity in engineering education) • technology transfer/commercialization • security & privacy • energy • Keynote speaker at breakfast, lunch &/or pre-reception • Associations • AeA (Amer. Elec Assoc) • ATC (Austin Tech Council) • Out-of-town IEEE speakers (IEEE-USA tab)

  19. Thumbnail Budget • Income: 200 /$50 members @ 15; 150 non @$55 = $9K • Other: ?? associations; in-kind • Expenses: Event manager - $3K • Expenses: Refreshments + lunch @15 =$3K • Expenses: facility = $.5K • Surplus: $2.5K
