Understanding Levees in River Systems: Formation and Function
This text explores the role of levees within river systems, particularly in the middle course of rivers. It explains how both erosion and deposition occur during floods, leading to the formation of natural levees as silt is eroded from the riverbed and deposited on river banks. Additionally, the text touches on human-made levees, constructed using concrete or stone mounds, which are designed to prevent flooding and protect vulnerable areas from potential hazards.

Leeves • Where in the river system is this feature found? Middle course
During floods both erosion and deposition occurs. • Silt is eroded from the bottom of the river and is deposited on the edge of the river bank causing embankment to increase in size and silt dries and turns solid.
Leeves can also can be man made using concrete or mounds of stone to prevent flooding of areas which could lead to great danger.
