  1. November 11th: "OMG! I have a phone interview with the ABC Company – I need to find out everything I can about them, RIGHT NOW!!"

  2. First – “everything”? • How about if we focus that a little: • Erin’s Research for Interview Preparation: a checklistpage in SimonExchange has what you need*! • This session will focus on what you should know about The Company *To know about: the Industry, the Company, & the Team.

  3. Understand the business model, know theircompetitors and major accomplishments. • Capital IQ • Long Business Description • Products (aka: how do they make $?) • MarketLine Advantage • Most reports include a competitors list • PrivCo for private companies *Access MarketLine & PrivCofrom links on library pages

  4. Know at least three competitive pressures &three opportunities facing the company* • ThomsonOne(public companies only) • Analyst reports from GlobalDatainclude a SWOT analysis • MarketLine Advantage • Many company reports here also include a SWOT analysis • But what if it’s not a public company, and there’s no MarketLine report?  *AKA: Where is the company going?

  5. Then you have to get creative • ABI\INFORM* - article database • (Now you’re combing for crumbs) • Use the Company look up field: *Access it from a link on a library page

  6. Article database research • Then on the results page, “Narrow results by”: • Trade Journals or • Newspapers • Example – Sweetwater Energy: • Accenture:
