  5. Q: Who should apply for a visa extension?

  6. A: Exchange students of visa validation period for less than 180 days

  7. Q: Is my visa an extendable visa?

  8. A: If your visa has validity of 60 days or more, and “no extension” is not written on the visa. Your visa should be an extendable visa.

  9. Q: When should I apply for my visa extension?

  10. A: You should apply for visa extension within 15 days before your visa expires.

  11. Q: Where should I apply for visa extension?

  12. A: You should apply for the visa extension at your local NIA service center.

  13. Q: What documents should I prepare for my visa extension?

  14. A: Documents required for visa extension • Application form (Photo not req.) • Passport • Original and copy of Visa • Student ID and Admission Letter (Include exchange period)

  15. Q:What should I do if I cannot come to apply for my visa extension in person?

  16. A:If you cannot submit your application in person, you may ask an agent to submit it for you. However, the power of attorney and attorney’s ID are required.

  17. Q: What should I do if I need to open a bank account in Taiwan?

  18. A:You will need to apply for an ID Number in order to open a bank account in Taiwan.

  19. Q: Who can apply for an ID Number?

  20. A: Those who have never applied for an ID number or ARC, and are in needed of opening a bank account, filing taxes, or applying for health insurance / driver’s license.

  21. Q: How long is the validity of my ID Number?

  22. A:Your ID number is valid for life. Each person can only have one ID Number in Taiwan.

  24. A: Documents required for ID Number • Application form (photo not required) • Passport (original and one copy)

  25. Q:What should I do if I cannot apply for my ID number in person?

  26. A:If you can not submit your application in person, you may ask an agent to submit it for you. However, the power of attorney and attorney’s ID are required.

  27. Q:Do I need an ID number if I already have an ARC?

  28. A:For those who already have an ARC , the ARC number serves as your ID number, therefore, the ARC holders do not need to apply for an ID number.

  31. Q:Who should apply for ARC?

  32. A:Exchange or degreestudents with resident visa and plan to stay in Taiwan for longer than 6 months should apply for an ARC.

  33. Q:Is there a deadline to apply for an ARC?

  34. A:Students with resident visa should apply for ARC within 15 days after arrival.

  35. Q:What will happen if I do not apply ARC within 15 days of arrival?

  36. A:Students with a resident visa who fail to apply for an ARC within 15 days of arrival could be fined 2,000NTD - 10,000NTD, depending on the length of the delay in submitting the application.

  37. Q:Can I apply for ARC if I only have a visitor visa?

  38. A:If you have a visitor visa and plan to stay in Taiwanfor more than 6 months, you will need to go to Ministry of Foreign Affairs to change your visitor visa to a resident visa before applying for an ARC.

  40. A: 1. At your local NIA service center • Individual application: submit application at counters for foreign passport holders • Group application: submit group applications at a reserved counter (advanced appointment by phone is required) 2. At your school(Registration Day Only)

  43. A:Documents for ARC Application • Application Form • Passport and Visa • 1 photo (2”x 2” taken within a year and same format as Taiwan ID) • Admission Letter (exchange period written on it) • Proof of Registration (Student ID with registration stamp)

  44. Q:How much should I pay for the ARC?

  45. A:The application fee for the ARC is 1,000NTD per year.

  46. Q:How long does it take to make an ARC?

  47. A:The processing time for an ARC is around 10 working days. You can come to the NIA Service Center to pick up your ARC with the original receipt.

  48. Q:What should I do if I lost my ARC?

  49. A:You should go to the local NIA Service Center and ask for a replacement for the lost ARC.

  50. Q:What documents should I prepare for a replacement of the lost ARC?
