  3. Write your own Declaration . . . • WHO makes rules you don’t like? • WHO decides fairness? • HOW can these rules be changed? • WHAT does it mean to be free from rules? • HOW do people go about declaring freedom from rules?

  4. Declaration Instructions I. Preamble: Small introduction (Why have you finally decided to complain? Explain your need for independence) II. Statement of Beliefs: Rationale behind their grievances (What beliefs do you have that are being unjustly ignored? Why should things be changed?) III. List of Grievances or Complaints: (What events or actions inspired your complaints? Why are your complaints worthwhile? What should the audience know about your complaints?) IV. Colonial Attempts to Redress Grievances: (Have you made attempts to remedy your situation, how? Were your attempts handled by the right people, how?) V. Formal Declaration of Independence: (What are you declaring independence from?) VI. Signatures: (Who will sign your declaration? What are the risks involved in signing this declaration?)

  5. Write Your Own Declaration • You will right your own Declaration of Independence based on yesterday’s list of grievances. • Split it into six parts • Leave a place for signatures, anyone who agrees with your “grievances”
