WEC Activities Engineering for Global Development Panel Session: Tuesday, September6, 2011 2:00-3:30 or 4:00-5:30 (time TBD) Engineering and the related technologies, solutions and industries have played a critical role in the economic development of countries around the world. And yet, the challenges associated with basic needs like access to electricity, clean water, effective healthcare and education-- still plague billions. UPADI Elections • Permanent HQ for UPADI • Organizations must submit nomination by July 1, 2011 • Selection will be made in Rio, Dec 2011 • Nominees for: • President, two Presidents will be elected in April • President Elect #1 – (Feb 2013-2015) • President Elect #2 – (Feb 2015-2017) • Vice President North America, – (Feb 2013-2015) • Treasurer – (Feb 2013-2017) • Secretary– (Feb 2013-2017) • Deadline for nominations is Oct 10, 2011 • Elections will be held April 9-14, 2012 in Havana.

  12. 2011 UPADI Meeting Rio de Janeiro, December 5-7, 2011 Proposed Educational Track (2 Days): Day 1: • Regional Engineering Education Initiatives Focusing on Innovation, Entrepreneurship, and Job Creation (Call for papers within Cuba and the surrounding region) • Engineering for the Americas, EftA Pilot Project for Enhancement of Engineering Education Throughout the Americas Adopted by 34 Ministers of Science and Technology in the OAS, with a program objective to improve engineering education in the Americas leading to job growth and increased retention Theme and some content from Rio will continue in Havana in April 2012

  13. 2011 UPADI Meeting Rio de Janeiro, December 5-7, 2011 Proposed Educational Track (2 Days): Day 2 • Vision2030: The Future of Engineering Education Led by the ASME Vision 2030 Task Force this session will bring together much of the current futuristic thinking on engineering education • Development of an Action Agenda for the Future of Engineering Education in the Americas . This session will bring to together the right mix of government, industry and academia to discuss and propose and action agenda for change Theme and some content from Rio will continue in Havana in April 2012
