Polishing After the second stage, the rice that comes out is brown rice. Some people promote eating brown rice but for the rice to be white further processing is done. The brown rice is polished which takes off its cover of brown colour and becomes white. This takes the bran off the rice grains.
Segregating During polishing many rice grains break into half or one-fourth. None of this goes to waste as the same type of broken pieces are packed together and sold accordingly. The price of shorter pieces of grains is lower than full pieces of rice grains.
