  4. APOLLO • DOMAIN- He is the god of music, prophecy, and reason • Son of Zeus and Leto • Had a brother named Artemis

  5. Artemis or Diana

Domain:goddess of the hunt, wilderness, moon and, virginity • Parents:Zeus and Leto • Problems with mortals: Chione was beloved by two gods, Hermes and Apollo, and they boasted that she was prettier than Artemis. Artemis was furious and killed Chione. • Flaws: dislike men • Fascinating fact: She is Apollo’s twin sister

Background. • Demeter-Greek Ceres-Roman • Demeter or Ceres was the great Olympian goddess of fertility, agriculture, grain, and bread. • Gave grain to humans to make food • Mother of Persephone, goddess or queen of underworld after being abducted by Hates. • Sister of Hates, One of Zeus’ wives • Left other gods and hid herself among mortals as old woman after losing daughter • The earth remained unfertile the entire time Demeter was away from Olympus

Helios • Helios-Sun God • Always in the sky • Floated on a golden cup at night and traveled East to West • Wore a purple robe • Had a mortal son, Phaethon • The town, Heliopis, in Egypt is named after him • Helios was a witness to various events or oaths sworn • Father-Hyperion, Mother-Theia, Sisters-Eos and Selene • Selene was the moon and Eos was dawn • Helios was known as a mighty charioteer

This caused Demeter, mother of Persephone to begin killing life on earth. His character is fierce and deceptive. He has a three headed dog named Cerberus who guards the underworld gates.

Hera is the sister and wife of Zeus • She was the queen of all the gods, and also the goddess of marriage. • She was known to be mean and selfish and generally unpleasant to be around • Hera spends a lot of her time trying to get back at Zeus for having other girlfriends besides her. When one of Zeus's girlfriends has a baby, Hera hates that baby and tries to get rid of it. • Hera's Symbol or Attribute is the peacock. Because she was the queen of the gods, and the peacock was a symbol of royalty.

Hermes/Mercury • Was the Greek/Roman god of animals, husbandry, roads, travel, hospitality, heralds, diplomacy, trade, thievery, language, writing, persuasion, cunning, athletic contests, gymnasiums, astronomy, and astrology. • Son of Zeus and Maia • Had a dispute with Apollo but eventually eased things over and became friends • Claim to fame: Stealing Apollo’s cattle • Flaw – Sometimes is a prankster and jokester in serious situations

Virgin goddess of hearth, architecture, and of the right ordering of family and domesticity • Daughter of Cronus and Rhea • Sister to Zeus, Hades, Poseidon, Demeter and Hera • Not suited with Aphrodite's ways of romance and marriage • Lacks assertiveness and outer ambition • Chose to spend most of her time on Earth with mortals

  36. INFO Persephoneis the daughter of Zeus and Demeter. Goddess of spring growth. Queen of the underworld, she was abducted by Hades, the king of the underworld.

  40. Odysseus/Ulysses • Fame: King of Itchica, Homer’s Odyssey, led Greeks to Victory against Trojans • Relationships: husband of Penelope, father of Telemachus, and son of Laërtes and Anticlea • Attributes: intelligence and strength • Flaws: pride and cruelty

  41. Uranus/Coelus Ray Nguyen

  42. Uranus/Coelus • God of the Sky, and had many children with Gaea. (Also the son of Gaea) • His son Chronus, castrated his father and threw his family jewels out to sea. • Aphrodite was born from this because of this.

Poseidon/Neptune • God of the Sea (also “Earth-Shaker”) • Son of Cronus (leader of frst generation of Titans) and Rhea (“the mother of gods”) • Brother, Zeus, was the god of sky and thunder • Poseidon always tried to take over Greek cities but always lost. • Athena gave an olive tree to Athens and was chosen over Poseidon • Poseidon then flooded the area to overcome his anger
