Attendance • Identify students with poor attendance • Follow district protocol for addressing absences • Collaborate with School Social Worker • Work with families to remove barriers • Recognize students for good attendance • Implement strategies to support students with poor attendance • Help students to feel more connected to school

Achievement Gaps • School Counselors are members of School Improvement Teams • Participate in development of School Strategic Plan • Align School Counseling Program Goals with School Goals • Develop action plans and implement interventions to address achievement gaps • Utilize data to measure effectiveness of interventions • Share results with stakeholders
Economically Disadvantaged Students • Utilize classroom space on-site at shelter • 10 week summer bridge program • Teacher Volunteers work with students in reading and math • Participate in summer reading program through local public library • Collected and leveled books to build library • Trained mothers at shelter how to read with their child(ren) • Provided ongoing modeling/support on site at shelter • Challenged students to turn in weekly reading logs for rewards
Career Development • Teach career clusters and career development standards • Help students develop “soft skills” • Explore student interests and expose them to a variety of careers • Guide students through development of career portfolio • Organize school-wide activities, such as career day, career centers, careers on wheels and college day
Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS) • School Counselors serve as PBIS Team Coaches • Train staff on school-wide expectations and common language • Teach rules and expectations to students • Reward positive behavior of students • Utilize data to identify problem areas and subgroups needing additional support
