  5. Snack Time! • Every morning – Snack must be in the room by 8 a.m. Students are not allowed to visit the cafeteria during the day to buy a snack. • Mustbe a healthy snack • No sweets • Water Only

  6. Mathematics • 90+ minutes a day • Math Facts (flashcards and online) • Concepts, Skills, Problem Solving in whole class groups and small guided groups • Daily word problem • UPS√, Thinking Patterns • CBAs throughout year – these are for assessment and will be a grade.

  7. Writing • Daily Language Workouts – Warm-up • Six Traits of Writing • Spelling/Word Work • Journaling • 2 Compositions – Expository and Narrative

  8. READING • I-station testing to help determine reading level • Reader’s Workshop format • Mini Lessons and Shared Reading • Guided Reading groups - Leveled Books will be taken home daily for homework • Independent Reading / Response Journals • Focus on comprehension strategies

  9. SCIENCE! • Process Skills (Scientific Method) • Lab Safety and Equipment • Journaling • Rocks, phases of the moon, matter, water cycle, traits and adaptations, etc. • CBAs throughout the year will be graded

  10. Social Studies • Texas Regions • Native Americans • Exploration and Settlement • Texas Today TEXAS

Communication • Daily binders • Agenda - please sign daily • Schedule, homework, reading log (Pizza Hut) • Thursday Folders • Newsletter- Via Website and e-mail. • Conference time 8:40-9:25 Tuesday/Thursday • Website – has information such as spelling words, newsletters, etc. • Transportation – Please notify your students teacher as well as the office when there is a change in transportation before 1:30. We are sometimes sick too.

  14. Cafeteria Visitor Table Facebook Teachers may not friend students or parents of students on Facebook Nurse’s office No more aspirin, cough drops, allergy medicine, etc. given to students. Medication forms along with the medication will need to be returned to the nurse in order for the kids to have any OTC medications. Expectations and Procedures • Dismissal • Carpool waits for siblings before going out • Please wait in your car • Students will only be loaded into the backseat as per state law • Walkers/bikers dismissed at south end of building by Pod 1 • Students can’t ride a bus that is not their own

Daily Work/Homework • Homework Monday through Thursday (40 Minutes) • No homework = signature and study hall • Correct/Return – students will have an opportunity to correct failing daily work up to receiving a 70. • Late work will be finished in study hall • If work is more than a week overdue, student may attend ZAP on Fridays

STAAR Testing – 4th • What is it? • State Test to enhance Rigor for students & get them “College Ready” • Timed Test (4 hours) – Just like SAT/ACT • Assesses previous grade level objectives to current grade (K-4th) • Reading STAAR- emphasizes critical analysis & less literal understanding • Math STAAR- Problem solving skills • Writing STAAR- 2 days; 1 composition each day (expository/narrative) • No School ratings this year; standards set Fall 2012 • Writing (March 27-28), Math (April 24) & Reading (April 25) • No visitors FISD Google Site: https://sites.google.com/a/friscoisd.org/staar/home • FAQ, Overview, Updated periodically by FISD
