Overcoming Challenges Carolina Caring's journey has had many challenges, including overcoming common misconceptions surrounding hospice and palliative care, which often present a tremendous roadblock in delivering the right level of care at the right time, and staffing - stemming from burnout levels experienced during COVID and the great resignation phenomenon. As a recipient of Modern Healthcare's Best Places to Work for the fourth year in a row. (2019, 2020, 2021, 2022), Killian and her team continue to push for greater levels of workplace engagement while nurturing an environment of diversity and inclusion. New Program Expands Services to Vulnerable Patients As Killian continues to see how a coordinated approach to serious illness care benefits our patients, she has been eager to develop new programs to expand the services we provide to some of the community's most vulnerable residents. It's an honor walking alongside patients and families as they go through these tough times together," she added.

  15. 10 Best Workplaces in Healthcare 2022 Innovation and Care I ndividuals who think out of the box are the ones that change the face of history. Such an attitude also gives birth to generosity. Along with the generous mindset comes the ability to think about advancements and developments. It is this same mindset that has led humankind to construct the technological era that we live in. The system employs approximately 1,200 employees and serves a geographic area spanning more than 67,000 square miles. The hospital is accredited by the Center for Improvement in Healthcare Quality (CIHQ). Great Plains Health, formerly known as Great Plains Medical Center, opened its doors in 1975 upon the merging of two smaller medical facilities. GPHealth serves as the region’s leader in technology and medical expertise, allowing more patients to stay at home for quality health care services instead of traveling great distances. Keeping the never-ending technology along with the roots of generosity alive and attending to society’s needs is Great Plains Health. The organization is on a journey from good to great and aims to provide continued excellence in the areas of people, quality, service, growth, and finance. GPHealth believes that this journey is intentional, measurable, and innovative. How is advancing technology helping to create better workplaces and increasing workflow productivity? Technology is something that we’ve really invested in. One of the most common things that health systems have focused on is electronic medical records. It has increased productivity and gives us the ability to have a patient’s chart in multiple different hands. Telemedicine is also something that I think we’ve been innovative with. We are a rural community and we cover a large regional area of 100,000 people. There are a lot of specialties where we have the need for one or two specialists. Strategic partnerships have allowed us to bring 24/7 telemedicine coverage to specialties where we haven’t had that in the past. This motive has led them toward the unstoppable road to success. The intense care and such commendable services are provided under the guiding light of Ivan Mitchell, Chief Executive Officer of GPHealth. With the guidance of Mr. Mitchell, the hospital never fails to succeed and innovate. Below are the highlights of the interview with Mr.Mitchell where he reveals the recipe for perfection. Please brief us about the company and its inception. What are the key challenges at workplace in healthcare, and how is Great Plains Health improvising on them? Great Plains Health (GPHealth) is based in North Platte, Nebraska. It is a fully accredited, 116-bed acute-care regional medical center serving Western and Central Nebraska, Northern Kansas and Southern South Dakota. Like so many industries, labor is the number one challenge. With the labor shortage, we have partnered with the University of Nebraska College of Nursing to bring clinical training for an accelerated BSN program to North Platte. We collaborate with our local community colleges, invest in local health science programs, and have expanded our international recruitment. We also ensure that the staff is practicing to the top level of their scope and license. With 90 physicians representing more than 30 medical specialties, the GPHealth system offers advanced health care, including heart and vascular, cancer, orthopedic surgery services, and women’s services, including level 2 neonatal intensive care. 16| October 2022|www.insightscare.com

  17. How does Great Plains Health ensure equal participation of both genders in the workplace? And what are the steps it has taken to make the workplace secure for women? GPHealth has a leadership team representative of our workforce, which is largely women. We strive to have a just culture where processes are evaluated, and concerns are addressed. We encourage employees to escalate any issues, and we offer additional training on diversity, equity and inclusion. Our goal is to provide an opportunity for anyone of any background to feel safe and enjoy their work. As an experienced leader, what advice would you like to give to aspiring entrepreneurs and enthusiasts who wish to venture into the competitive industry that you are serving? Almost a fifth of the economy is based on healthcare, but profit margins are small for hospital systems. Come in with a tool that solves a problem and be able to explain how it takes the place of a current line item in the budget, increases quality and saves money. What are the future goals of Great Plains Health? How does it envision scaling up its operations and reach in 2023 and beyond? Our goals are simple and stay consistent. First, we aim to rank in the top quartile in employee engagement, which we currently do, and measure through an annual survey with smaller pulse surveys throughout the year. Second, we want to hit the top quartile in patient experience, which we’re on track to do for the year. Third, we aspire to earn a 5-star Medicare rating. We are currently a 4-star facility and believe we are on track for that 5-star rating within the next two years. This rating helps us measure quality and performance. Fourth, we work to maintain an ‘A’ rating from S&P for financials. These goals highlight how we want to be a positive place to work, all while taking exceptional care of our patients and ensuring the highest level of financial stewardship. Enlist a few testimonials from your clients or customers and awards or recognition that accurately highlight GPHealth’s position in the market. GPHealth has been nationally recognized by the Leapfrog Group as a Top Rural Hospital for three years running. The Leapfrog Group sets high standards for health care safety and quality. We are thorough and innovative and are reaching for the best every day. This recognition is a reflection of our dedication to making GPHealth a beacon for trusted healthcare in the region. 18| October 2022|www.insightscare.com

  21. The Future of the Mobile Application Market for Pregnant Women A is attracting a growing number of users, advertisers and investors. If you wish to find out the various factors that are stimulating its growth and shaping strategies for key players, this article is the perfect match. By- Evgeny Zhikharev bout 140 million women give birth worldwide every year, and over 60% download mobile pregnancy applications. It is a dynamic market that apps are quickly becoming EdTech platforms offering tutorials, workshops and expert training. Application developers are actively implementing AI technologies, which make interaction with users more personalized. Factors Driving Growth The market is affected by both short and long-term trends, including the Covid-19 pandemic; the growth of mobile Internet users and an increased trust in mobile services. Use of Mobile Application for Pregnant Women Pregnancy apps give women informational and emotional support. Future parents can find answers to frequently asked questions about health, psychology, and their changing lifestyles. A woman can track changes in her body using health charts and, if necessary, receive telemedicine consultations. During the pandemic, pregnant women found themselves at risk, because a consultation at a clinic became associated with the possibility of infection. Women have since started to use pregnancy apps as a source of information and a secure channel to communicate with doctors. Communication with other pregnant women through chats helps them socialize and find solutions to common problems, while marketplaces offer them necessary and desirable products at a discount. 23. mobile Internet. In 2022, the average mobile Internet speed increased by 40.6% compared to the previous year, reaching 29.91 Mb/s. Costs have also become more accessible, dropping from $8.18 to $4.07 per gigabyte over the last two years, which is more than half. 9.7 bln. This means that the number of pregnant women will rise accordingly. At the same time, 1/3 of the population, mainly in developing countries, is still not covered by mobile Internet. Thus, the geographic expansion for players will be directed at emerging markets. In 2021, digital health raised $29.1 bln in investments, twice as much as the year before. Of these, femtech companies received $1.2 bln, which also set a new record. Solutions for pregnant women is now the largest femtech segment, with a 21% market share. Pregnancy app developers will look for ways to get around the "objective" market restrictions, of which there are two. First, this is a relatively small audience; 140 mln pregnant women is a rather narrow audience for companies with global ambitions. Secondly, there is the gestational age, which is limited to 9 months. Consequently, companies will seek to expand their audience and increase user lifetime (LT). How will they achieve this? Current Market Scenario According to AppMagic 's analytics, over the past five years, the number of downloads of the ten most popular pregnancy apps has grown from 10 mln to 46 mln per year. Annual growth hit 71% and continues to rise due to expansion in emerging markets. To expand their audience, pregnancy apps will generate functionality for the entire family, evolving from FemTech to FamilyTech services. Studies show that men who use pregnancy apps become more involved in pregnancy issues and more attentive to their partners. Thus, the market's target audience, when considering relatives of pregnant women, could grow to about 1.2 billion people. Players use two main monetization models: Subscription : This model is popular in developed countries with a high-paying audience. Advertising : Pregnancy apps are attractive to pharmaceutical and FMCG companies. Since women use the apps for 7-9 months, during which they may experience anxiety and stress, advertisers can build long-term and trusting relationships with women and their loved ones through this channel. Applications unite a niche audience that can be segmented by socio- demographic indicators, week of pregnancy, or trimester. Ÿ Ÿ The terms of use of applications will expand due to functionality aimed at preparing for pregnancy and the postpartum period. Thus, the user lifetime can increase to 4- 5 years. Wrapping Up The market for mobile applications for pregnancy management is not saturated. Its further growth will be ensured by the continued penetration of mobile Internet, expansion into emerging markets, and the expansion of functionality for both women and their families. It is becoming very attractive to both investors and entrepreneurs. According to JC Market Research, the income volume of participants in the pregnancy app market in 2021 amounted to $96.3 million, which is 5.5% higher than the previous year. The industry volume is expected to grow by 6.2% per year and will likely reach $165.8 million in 2030. Pregnancy apps are at the crossroads of the femtech and parenting tech markets. This niche's total addressable market (TAM) can be estimated at $1.2 trillion, and the serviceable addressable market (SAM) at $550 billion. As part of the digital health industry, pregnancy management apps will help ensure that pregnant women and their loved ones have equal access to up-to-date medical information and digital health benefits throughout the world. 25. Nhlanhla Sheer Commitment to Perpetual Enhancements Mlilo A out one's life. However, there has been a change in dietary patterns as a result of increased production of processed foods, growing urbanization and changing lifestyles. ll forms of malnutrition, as well as a number of non-communicable diseases (NCDs) and illnesses, can be avoided by eating a balanced diet through- Nowadays, individuals eat more meals that are heavy in calories, fats, free sugars and sodium, and many people eat insufficient amounts of fruit, vegetables, and other dietary fiber-rich foods like whole grains. Depending on individual characteristics (such as age, gender, lifestyle, and level of physical activity), cultural context, regionally accessible foods, and dietary habits, a diversified, balanced, and healthy diet will have different compositions. But the fundamental ideas of what makes up a healthy diet stay the same. Nhlanhla Mlilo,Senior MEAL Officer/Manager, BHA UPLIFT Program at GOAL Global and SIE Coordi- nator at BantwanaZimbabwe, has over 13 years of experience in food security, health, nutrition, liveli- hoods enhancement, human rights, and resilience building sectors. He is currently leading a UNICEF-funded and Department of Social Development- commissioned capacity assessment study of the Zimbabwe child protection system aimed at informing the new National Action Plan for OVC. In addition to having an innova- tive mindset, Nhlanhla is a voracious reader, a dedicated researcher and a skilled communicator. 28| October 2022|www.insightscare.com

  26. Interview with Insightscare In his present position as the SIE Coordinator, he is in charge of, among other things, supporting the development of the MEAL systems for the programs, accountability and learning initiatives, and MEAL capacity building for the Department of Social Development MEAL Unit. He is skilled in RBM, human resource management, coalition building, partnership development, knowledge develop- ment, and networking. Working with GOAL Zimbabwe widened my scope in both MEAL technical and policy engagements. In the portfolio, I led institution-wide reporting, evaluations, and MEAL staff technical support and supervision. Furthermore, I contributed to country-level MEAL strategies and policies in collaboration with GOAL Global. In Bantwana, Zimbabwe, apart from reporting, I have been more consumed by evaluative research work aimed at informing the next phase of child protection policy advisory as the country transitions from NAP for OVC III to the next phase. The following are key points from a thorough interview between Insights Care and Nhlanhla Mlilo, who shares how he is successfully contributing to humanitarian work and supporting the vulnerable: Tell us about how communities in Zimbabwe are affected by the existing food scarcity and humanitarian crisis in relation to their physical, social and psychologi- cal health. Nhlanhla, kindly tell us the source of inspiration. What led you to serve the existing humanitarian crisis and support the vulnerable? My dream was to become an industrial psychologist, but life had other plans. In my youthful years, I began to be conscious of social injustices all around me. Seeking advice from my mentor, a former High Court of Zimbabwe judge, he introduced me to a policy as the cornerstone of eco- nomic, social and human capital development. Zimbabwe, formerly known as the breadbasket of Africa, has, over the years, been reduced to a basket case. The hyperinflationary environment, poor employment opportunities, dual currency regime, erratic food commod- ity prices, agricultural input shortages, and/or high prices coupled with erratic weather patterns have all conspired to negatively affect the country’s food security situation. I was fortunate enough to do my work-related attachments with one of the few think tanks in Zimbabwe (The Commu- nity Foundation for the Western Region of Zimbabwe), and my experiences with them opened my eyes to the work I can do to change people’s lives and in the same stroke influence policy through evidence-based engagements. Over the years, the country has seen urban poverty take center stage, largely due to a poor economic outlook coupled with the effects brought about by the just-ended COVID-19-induced lockdowns. The above-mentioned challenges have led to a rise in the adoption of negative coping strategies, particularly in poor urban areas. School dropouts, child marriages, child labor, illegal migration, criminal activity, and drug and substance abuse have been on the increase. Compromised access to health services has exacerbated the situation among the poor communities. Briefly describe yourself and shed some light on your professional tenure as an SIE Coordinator at Bantwana Zimbabwe? How has your office as Senior MEAL Officer at GOAL Global helped in your growth in the industry? I’m a passionate development worker with a specialty in MEAL. Over the years, I have not only grown passionate about data for development but also about mentoring institutions and upcoming MEAL enthusiasts. I believe data, if well managed, analyzed and sensed, has the potential to contribute towards solving the bulk of human- ity’s problems. My current work focuses on informing strategy review and re-designing approaches that ensure beter service delivery. Over the years, working in various portfolios within the MEAL sector, I have consolidated my expertise in the industry across various programming thematic areas that include human rights, WASH, livelihoods and food security, health, and disaster risk reduction and management. 29| October 2022|www.insightscare.com

  27. are restricted, and hence programming becomes challeng- ing. Secondly, brain drain and motivation among the remaining staff are very low in government institutions. These factors have contributed to the poor uptake and execution of recommendations. The brain drain has also robbed various institutions of the best brains for various key tasks. What advice would you like to give to the budding entrepreneurs and enthusiasts who desire to resolve the humanitarian crises of Zimbabwe and improve the Zimbabwe Health System? Invest in management information systems and technolo- gies; these will be the backbone of future system strength- ening and growth. The majority of humanitarian crises affecting Zimbabwe and the SADC region have been largely climatic in nature. What areas, in your opinion, is the Zimbabwe health system currently struggling with to meet the needs of the vulnerable population? The country’s health system is currently struggling to ensure an adequate supply of necessary medications across public health facilities. In most instances, patients have to purchase basic medication at exorbitant prices from private players in the industry. Access to specialized services has continued to be a huge challenge i.e., there is only one dialysis machine in Mpilo Hospital in Bulawayo, which serves three provinces. These have had devastating effects due to poor predictive capacity and, hence, limited planning for responses. Such pioneering initiatives as the Sendai framework will be more effective as the technology will allow communities to forecast disasters more accurately, enhancing disaster preparedness and resilience. How do you envision scaling your services and opera- tions in 2022 and beyond? In what way are you able to resolve these challenges through Bantwana Zimbabwe? In my current portfolio, I am working towards influencing the future of child protection. My work is influencing both policy and system reform in child protection in Zimbabwe. As previously highlighted, my work with Bantwana has been largely at the policy level. I believe that the policy analysis and recommendations we are putting forward, which are based on field-level evidence and best practices from the regional and international communities, will help to resolve the majority of challenges. Apart from influencing the Zimbabwe Child Protection Policy and pushing boundaries in the field of M&E, I am contributing towards the development of an indigenous foundation and think tank. What endeavors are you currently pursuing to improve your service to the vulnerable population in Zimbabwe? Black Forest seeks to end poverty in this lifetime by empowering and capacitating the people of Zimbabwe in particular and those of SADC in general to embrace and pursue socio-economic self-determination in sustainable development. To live up to the goal, the Black Forest envisions adopting strategies for ending poverty that are not donor-dependent, leverage local economies and influence the nation's development agenda. My current work focuses on informing strategy review and re-designing approaches that ensure better service delivery. The aim is to move away from approaches that have been or are currently being used but are not bearing fruit. What are some of the challenges do you face when conducting projects, and how do you turn them into opportunities for growth? Two key challenges affect our work currently; going into an election year, operational space and access to information 30| October 2022|www.insightscare.com

  31. Sons A baseless ideology slowly fading away By Nancy (Chinelo) Udenka on International Day of the Girl Child, October 11 are more Important Daughters - than th I About The Author I am Nancy Udenka, founder of Teenage Mom Initiative A Physiologist, Medical doctor (in view) at Shenyang and an adent Mental Health advocate on a mission to responses, and first-hand experience in research and n most parts of the world, parents love their sons more than daughters, they seem to have the perception that more investments should be put into the males because of course, they would carry on the family name and legacy. Even in marriages, where the woman has no respect nor value unless she gives birth to a son. The preference of the male child over the females has also contributed largely to menace of gender inequality, decline in girl child education, and socioeconomic disparities. and I celebrate the International Day of the Girl Child. A philanthropist and exponent towards mental health Ÿ Ÿ Ÿ Ÿ This ideology is propagated by certain cultural beliefs, illiteracy, societal restrictions, religion and emotional desires, male dominance as only ones in charge of family income, perceived weakness that females can't attain certain positions, amongst many others. I grew up in a family of seven (Parents, three sisters and a brother). I’m the last child with my twin sister, and was told mum wanted a second son, but oh well, she had two more girls and twins at that, how funny. My parents actually didn't obviously make a preference over my only brother, maybe to protect “our feelings” or not. However, we got equal education, resources and support. This may have worked for me, but not for others. I once had a friend whose case was the reverse, it affected her upbringing, damaged her self-esteem, and created a barrier to discovering her true self and abilities. It hindered her ability to explore, to crown it all; she got married early- this is a story of a million among teenage mothers. 33. others. In Africa, especially in the western part, research has proven records of a high prevalence of child marriage prior to her physical and/or emotional growth. Not ignoring the fact, they get pregnant and have to experience child labor, and risk of complications during delivery, overall negative impact on their mental wellness, and sexual and reproductive health. I’m excited as to the adverse change going on in the lives of girls, campaigns bursting out to promote girl child education to let her dream big and fly without limitations. There is great need for a strategic alliance among individuals, educational bodies, private entities, as well as national and international bodies, to properly tackle this issue. Social media platforms can serve as aid for promotions, campaigns to create awareness and raise a call of action. The future of the girl child as an endangered species amongst her male counterparts and sadly, even her fellow counterparts, must be protected at all costs. It’s high time we stopped distributing sweets only when a baby boy is born and frowning when a girl is born. Time to put a halt to uttering coated sarcasm “this is a rare thing for a girl to achieve” when a change in a chain of cycles is encountered. It shouldn’t be considered a deviance that a daughter can do the job of a son. “With adversity, however, comes resourcefulness, creativity, tenacity, and resilience. The world’s 600 million adolescent girls have shown time and time again that given the skills and the opportunities, they can be the changemakers driving progress in their communities, building back stronger for all, including women, boys and men. Girls are ready for a decade of acceleration forward. It is time for us all to stand accountable – with and for girls – and to invest in a future that believes in their agency, leadership and potential.” (UNITED NATIONS) The Girl Child Time To Rule Her World Is Now or Never Now the narrative is changing, no longer shall our voices go unheard. Every girl has the right to attain greatness and harness her full potential, there should be no limitations as to what level she should stop. I’m very passionate about teen girls, with focus on their mental health, sexual and reproductive health. Both of these areas are de-emphasized and not well addressed. Parents shy away from proper conversation about sex, educative institutions doesn't promote abstinence and the environment doesn't preach about preventive measures as it should. This has led to increase in teenage pregnancies, school drop out of teen girls, socioeconomic inequalities, increased poverty amongst other negative impacts. Gone are…. Days when the girl child isn't recognized: Days when the girl child shouldn't be educated: Days when the girl child shouldn't be in power: Days when the girl child is voiceless: Days when the girl child's roles were only limited to marriage and childbearing: Days when the girl child future ends in the kitchen: Days when the girl child isn't allowed to dream big: I am an advocate of the United Nations SDG 3.7 target plan with more focus on the indicator 3.7.2 Adolescent birth rate (aged 10–14 years; aged 15–19 years) per 1,000 women in that age group, as well as SDG 5.3 target plan, emphasis on the Indicator 5.3.1 Proportion of women aged 20–24 years who were married or in a union before age 15 and before age 18. We must instead look on the bright side and embrace this beautiful astonishment, that is, the power of a girl child. Ÿ We, the daughters are stronger than the world thinks. Ÿ Stronger than our parents think. Ÿ Even much stronger than we think of ourselves. Ÿ We shouldn't let criticism stop us from reaching the top, and allow nobody to make us feel inferior without our own consent. Through my organization TEMI, we’ll keep striving to encourage workshops, campaigns, outreaches and open discussions to tackle this menace. You too can be part of this movement by engaging in community development programs, empowering young girls, volunteering, and donations. 38| October 2022|www.insightscare.com
