  2. Bell ringer • Complete the student emergency contact sheet.

  3. Agenda • Activity #1: Students read syllabus -20 • Activity #2: Getting to know you activity-20 • Activity # 3: Rules and procedures. Students come up with class rules. -15 • Activity # 4: Explanation of AP Human Geography. • Activity # 5: Introduction to big goal. Students reflect on big goal and make suggestions to changes.

  5. Entering Class • Enter quietly,pickup handouts and/or turn in homework into the homework box (late homework in the late homework box) then proceed to your assigned seat. If you have turned in your homework on time mark your assignment on the homework tracker. • Sharpen your pencil before the final bell, and be in your seat before the bell goes off. • Take out all supplies. The supplies list will be posted on the board (you should not have to open your bag later in class). • Turn OFF cell phone and place in bag or purse. • Place ALL purses, bags, backpacks and other personal belongings on the floor under your desk or on your assigned table if space permits. • Log objective, log homework and start the bell ringer. If you students have not completed one or many of the procedures above their bell ringers will not be checked off. • (if student forgets materials they can be borrowed from teacher but will result in an automatic deduction from participation grade. Object borrowed must be logged in resource book. If students do not check material back in compensation will be expected).

  6. During Class • Do not speak: while peer is speaking or while Mrs. Botelho is giving instruction, or during silent reading/work time. There will be plenty of time to speak during class Mrs.Botelho will inform you when that time has come. • Maintaining attention: • All students must display active learning position to be considered as participants in class. This includes: • o Sitting up straight and facing forward • o Engaged in current activity • o Track speaker with your eyes • o Desk cleared of personal items • Never put your head down on the desk I REPEAT NEVER PUT YOUR HEAD DOWN ON THE DESK. • Raising hands: • Always raise your hand to contribute to class discussion or get teachers attention. Do not raise your hand during verbal instruction from Mrs.Botelho.

  7. End of Class • Dismissal • o Students will NOT stand up when the bell rings or pack up their belongings. They must wait until Mrs. Botelho formally dismisses them. • o No student will be dismissed from class until all the following are complete • 1. Each student must clean up their desk and floor area completely. The person sitting in the front of each row will walk down isles to make sure desk areas are clean. • 2. Every student must be seated. • 3. Rows must be straight.

  8. WHAT ARE YOUR Rules? • Brainstorm some rules you feel have been effective in the past. What kind of rules make you feel valued? What kind of rules are positive? • Who would like to make a small sign of these rules? Title it AP Human Geo and include A or B day. These rules will then be posted on the board all year.

  12. How does AP credit work? • In May you all will take the AP exam. • Student must pass exam with a 3 in order to receive college credit!   13. COST BENEFIT • How many plan to go to college? • ONE class at UNC cost $802-$1600 • The average college textbook costs $175 • That’s a total of $979-$1670 for one college credit! • Do you know how much the AP exam costs?

  16. Mini Big Goal • This year our goal is to master(85% or higher) all of our assessments so that we can: • 1. Pass the AP exam in May • 2. Prepare ourselves for the rigor of college • This means becoming a student-driven • classroom (self empowered, self-motivated, • and self sufficient)

  19. Write this Down • Homework • Label your world map. Make sure you locate EACH country. Create a key so that it can be easily followed. You will have a map quiz next week! • Read and study your syllabus/procedures and get the Parent Attachment signed. HINTthere will be a quiz on the syllabus!
