  7. Jesus loves to disappoint us!!! • Revelation 19:11-1611 I saw heaven standing open and there before me was a white horse, whose rider is called Faithful and True. With justice he judges and makes war. 12 His eyes are like blazing fire, and on his head are many crowns. He has a name written on him that no one knows but he himself. 13 He is dressed in a robe dipped in blood, and his name is the Word of God. 14 The armies of heaven were following him, riding on white horses and dressed in fine linen, white and clean. 15 Out of his mouth comes a sharp sword with which to strike down the nations. "He will rule them with an iron scepter." He treads the winepress of the fury of the wrath of God Almighty. 16 On his robe and on his thigh he has this name written: KING OF KINGS AND LORD OF LORDS.  John 12:12-1612 The next day the great crowd that had come for the Feast heard that Jesus was on his way to Jerusalem. 13 They took palm branches and went out to meet him, shouting, "Hosanna! " "Blessed is he who comes in the name of the LORD!" "Blessed is the King of Israel!" 14 Jesus found a young donkey and sat upon it, as it is written, 15 "Do not be afraid, O Daughter of Zion; see, your king is coming, seated on a donkey's colt." 16At first his disciples did not understand all this. Only after Jesus was glorified did they realize that these things had been written about him and that they had done these things to him.

  9. Jesus disappoints us because our expectations of God are false. We are all guilty of inventing a god who conforms to our requirements… • We always come up with definitions of a god who leaves us in control… What are your false expectations of God?

  10. Jesus disappoints us because our expectations of God are false. Jesus died to correct our expectations of God…and free us from falsehood… • John 12:23-2423 Jesus replied, "The hour has come for the Son of Man to be glorified. 24 I tell you the truth, unless a kernel of wheat falls to the ground and dies, it remains only a single seed. But if it dies, it produces many seeds.  • John 12:31-33 31 Now is the time for judgment on this world (kosmos); now the prince of this world will be driven out. 32 But I, when I am lifted up from the earth, will draw all men to myself." 33 He said this to show the kind of death he was going to die.

  12. 13. Jesus disappoints us because our expectations for ourselves are false. Jesus tells us this “life out of death” principle applies to us as well… • John 12:25-2625 The man who loves his life will lose it, while the man who hates his life in this world will keep it for eternal life. 26 Whoever serves me must follow me; and where I am, my servant also will be. My Father will honor the one who serves me. • Laying down our self-oriented lives so that others can have God-oriented lives is often a painful process…

  14. • Laying down our self-oriented lives so that others can have God-oriented lives is often a painful process… • 2 Cor. 1:8-9 8 We do not want you to be uninformed, brothers, about the hardships we suffered in the province of Asia. We were under great pressure, far beyond our ability to endure, so that we despaired even of life. 9Indeed, in our hearts we felt the sentence of death. But this happened that we might not rely on ourselves but on God, who raises the dead.

  15. • Laying down our self-oriented lives so that others can have God-oriented lives is often a painful process… • 2 Cor. 4:10-1210 We always carry around in our body the death of Jesus, so that the life of Jesus may also be revealed in our body. 11 For we who are alive are always being given over to death for Jesus' sake, so that his life may be revealed in our mortal body. 12So then, death is at work in us, but life is at work in you.

  16. Please Consider… • Are you disappointed with God? How is He exposing your false expectations? • Have you done business with the God who is really there? Or are you still living in your numb dream world? • Are you losing your life for the sake of others experiencing the Gospel?
