  1. By Bob Furber It has a Dramatic Impact on:- The amount of sewage to be treated- The number of treatment plants required- Possibilities for innovative solutions to processing sewage Water Conservation Can Impact How We Deal with Our Sewage

  2. Total Water Processed Through Water Treatment Plants 10 Year Trend – January The CRD's Water Conservation Plan has been very successful

  3. Total Water Processed Through Water Treatment Plants 10 Year Trend – February The CRD's Water Conservation Plan has been very successful

  4. Combined Macaulay and Clover Point Sewage Flows measured by the CRD This has had a dramatic impact on historical (measured) sewage flows

  5. Measured vs. Projected Sewage Flows Projected sewage flows diverge from measured flows ..DRAMATICALLY

  6. CRD ADWF SEWAGE FLOWS Water Conservation Largely Attained in 2009 The Macloughlin Plant now has Excess Capacity

  7. CRD ADWF SEWAGE FLOWS Water Conservation Largely Attained in 2015 The Macloughlin Plant now has Excess Capacity

  8. Impact on LWMP • SENOB Plant not Required – Save 100M$ + AFTER paying for sewer upgrades • No attenuation tanks required for EC interceptor • Western Communities Plant Can be deferred for decades • Window of opportunity remains open for innovative solutions to sewage processing • Conventional sewage treatment plant may never be required for Western Communities – Save 100M$ +

  9. Postscript • We have started discussions with the CRD engineers on 2 hither-to undocumented factors that could affect the conclusions in this presentation: • BODt loading: Water conservation thickens the soup, making it more difficult to digest • Safety Factors: Should they be buried or should they be clearly documented and analysed? This is the subject of ongoing discussions.
