  3. TOPICS • As part of the learning in the adults' school In Livermore, a project has been assigned in order that the students could share some skill, history or experience of life. The principal point is TO CELEBRATION OF LIFE PROJECT. And the group of art that joins for 7 students of different cities sharing the topics of: • Textiles in Guatemala (FLORY RIZZO) • Traditions and holidays in Guatemala (EDUARDO SELINGER) • Mayan Culture (RAMIRO RIZZO) • Origin of the Crotshe and (ALEJANDRA MAGAÑA) • Graphical Art and Origamia (GUMARO LUNA)

  5. Introduction Good morning everyone. My name is Eduardo Selinger. I’m from Guatemala . And I’m going to tell you about the Holy Week in Guatemala. The city of Guatemala is located in the central part of america. This surrounded of beautiful mountainous and volcanoes. In Guatemala it her celebrates what we call Holy Week. In these days many persons is eager to go out to visit the beach or some tourist places

  8. When this special day is celebrated. This celebration is sometime between March or April. • Where it is celebrated. • The City most popular to this Celebration is in Antigua Guatemala , but there are other cities where there are celebrated these holidays of holy week. • Why it is celebrated. • Because is commemorates the Passion, Crucifixion and Resurrection of Lord Jesus Christ. The entire city participates in the event, and thousands of national and international visitors fill Antigua to witness the dramatic happenings • How it is celebrated in you country. • The event begins on Palm Sunday, during which the venerated images of Jesus of Nazareth (Jesus Nazareno) and the Holy Virgin of Sorrow (Santisima Virgen de Dolores)

  9. There are two type of carpets (alfombras) made during Holy Week. The carpets along the processional route are made by residents along the route who invite friends and family to assist them.  The carpets in the churches are made for the holy vigils (velaciones) and are made by the brotherhood and all neighborhood. • How long it is celebrated, and any other important facts about this special day.

  10. Thousands of persons fill the streets of the city. The streets are adorned by made carpets of flowers and aserrin (sawdust/residue of wood). A procession is one walks loaded in arms for many persons. This is a real penance for those who load. The celebration lasts one week, since from different churches they work out different you walk. The gown is very particular both for the men and for the women.. The persons who decide to visit the beaches must have a lot of care since the waves of the sea I am very high at some hours of the day and for the manana they can enjoy since the tide is low.. In the main the beaches have lifeguard, in general they report of the care inside the beach for it and for the children. On having finished every procession the carpets are removed and all the streets are cleaned. Many people are useful to be able to do sales of food. There are a lot of variety and different typical dishes. The people is eagerly to be able to enjoy these festivities.

  11. The weather in Guatemala is very agreeable. The best time to visit and to have a good time is in summer, March April and May. I love Guatemala and I am eagerly to back to my country Thank you for listening to my presentation. Do you have any questions?
