Born in Scotland on April 30, 1858, James Scotty Philip moved to Kansas and later to South Dakota in pursuit of gold. A dedicated family man, he married Sarah Larribee and fathered ten children. Philip served as an army scout and became a pioneer in buffalo conservation, purchasing a herd to prevent their extinction. Tragically, he died at 53 due to a brain disease but left a lasting legacy through his work and the cemetery he built for his children. Philip's efforts in buffalo preservation are remembered to this day.

James Scotty Philip was born on April 30, 1858 in Scotland. • In 1874 James moved to Kansas following his older brother George, after that he moved to South Dakota after hearing about the discovery of gold. South Dakota Kansas
