  4. Why study Jacob? • Old Testament people and events are given to us as examples (I Cor. 10:11). • Jacob’s life is laid out for us in snap-shots that will help us learn how God works in lives. • Our Goal: To see how God works to develop us spiritually and learn to work with Him.

  8. Esau– good person, but wrapped up in your own life, with no spiritual dimension. Jacob– flawed person, but desiring Spiritual things and God’s blessing on your life. Are you an Esau, or a Jacob?

  10. What happened in our story? Isaac planned to mess with God’s plan. Rebekah plotted to force God’s plan. Jacob lied to get what was already his. Esau had remorse. Brother against brother; Esau planned to kill Jacob.

  11. What does it mean to us? Our customs and God’s plan are not always the same thing. Manipulation to accomplish God’s will is a lack of faith. Manipulation to accomplish God’s will causes division.
