The UA Cooperative Extension Service What we do: Outreach and education for Division of Agriculture Offices located in all 75 counties in Arkansas Provide educational programs and research-based information to the people of Arkansas at no cost Topics include parenting, foods & nutrition, horticulture, agriculture, leadership and youth programs “Arkansas is our campus.”

  4. Cooperative Extension ServiceWater Quality Education Projects First NWA project – Moore’s Creek Project Historically have focused on rural communities EPA’s Phase II Stormwater Regulations Allowed CES to branch out into urban areas & issues

Urban Hispanic NPS Pollution Prevention Outreach & Education Project • Past educational efforts have neglected the growing Hispanic community • Arkansas’ Hispanic population has increased exponentially since 1990 • Benton County up 891% • Carroll County up 1174% • Madison County up 293% • Washington County up 747%

  6. Urban Hispanic NPS Pollution Prevention Outreach & Education Project 3 year project through September 2008 Funds provided by an EPA 319 grant Specifically targets urban Hispanic population Project area includes Benton, Carroll, Madison & Washington counties

  7. Grant Tasks & Activities Translation of Education Materials News articles, PSA’s, fact sheets, posters Public Outreach & Awareness Youth Education School programs, after-school programs, summer camps, youth clubs, 4-H Adult Education Community and civic groups, surveys, HHW cleanup
