Understanding Class Inequality and Urbanization in the Developing World

This article examines the deep-rooted class inequalities in the developing world, highlighting the legacy of colonialism and the dominance of transnational corporations (TNCs) in controlling industries. It discusses the impact of urbanization, with over half the global population now living in cities that struggle with underemployment and lack of resources. Despite the promise of industrialization, many workers face job insecurity and the absence of unions. Additionally, the article addresses significant barriers to accessing healthcare, housing, water, electricity, and education for millions of slum-dwellers.
