  4. National Comorbidity Coordinator Projects • Primary Health Care Comorbidity Network Pilot Program • Mental Health and Substance Use Comorbidity: Building on ‘Can Do’ Grants Program

Primary Mental Health Care Comorbidity Network Pilot Program • Contracts have been exchanged for the Program which will be undertaken from 31 March 2009 – 30 March 2010. • Each SBO has been asked to recruit a Comorbidity Coordinator for their State/Territory. • One has been recruited so far with most other SBO’s either in the process of advertising or interviewing candidates

Network Pilot Program Future Plans • It is expected that the Coordinators will meet in mid-April 2009 to discuss and formulate their business plans for the year • The Coordinators will be able to assist their State/Territory Divisions in the implementation of the Mental Health and Substance Use Comorbidity: Building on ‘Can Do’ Grants Program.

Building on ‘Can Do’ Grants Program • Guidelines and applications for the Grants Program were sent out during January 2009 • Requests for applications were for four (4) categories • Prevention, early intervention and education • Maintenance of multidisciplinary networks at the local level • Enhanced Skills Development • Consumer Support

  8. Comorbidty Grants Program Progress • AGPN received 166 grant applications • Total value of applications received was $10,290,301

  9. Comorbidity Grant Applications breakdown RRMA Grading • Urban (1) = 81 applications • Provincial (2-4) = 14 applications • Rural (5+)= 65 applications Level of interest in Comorbidity • Total number of GPs and Allied Professionals indicating interest in the programs Nationally 11,293

Comorbidity Grants Program Future Plans • AGPN members will initially grade all applications and short-list to a manageable number for assessment by the Advisory and Assessment Panel • The Advisory and Assessment panel members are: • Brian Flanagan (Alcohol and Drug Foundation) • Dr Rod MacQueen (Specialist GP) • Karen Hales-Robertson (SBO Representative) • Katherine Mills (AOD Research Centre) • Louise Butkus (Drug Strategies Branch, Department of Health and Ageing)

  11. Grant Assessment Timeline • End-March • AGPN members assessment sent to Panel Members • Mid-April • Panel Members meet to discuss and recommend successful applicants • End-April • Successful Grant applications notified
