Overall/Brainstorming • focus this year on the pipeline • higher level: concepts not progress • what is our legacy? what are tangible products we can point to • grad students • professors • workforce diversity • what can I bring to the table • use your lab as a model of (1)  a more diverse C-MORE and (2) place-based research with cultural connections (Heeia).  Explain why you think you were successful in attracting your lab members, and how you're using your KSI and NPN connections to establish a pipeline.  Consider interviewing your lab members and people who will help you recruit future lab members (Miss Ish) vs random people.

  2. Information from the Annual report • Diversity goals: increase the number of underrepresented minorities, particularly Native Hawaiians and Pacific Islanders (NHPI) • in all levels of Center research and educational programs • pursuing careers in ocean and earth sciences and related disciplines • stems from the unique opportunity (only STC) headquartered in Hawaii, to entrain students into STEM workforce • Diversity objectives • ensure diversity is a priority in hiring and recruiting Center personnel • ensure C-MORE education programs are oriented toward increasing the representation of NHPI and other underrepresented groups, both within the Center and within the field of ocean and earth sciences and related disciplinese • diversity: BOXES/Highlights for things to talk about • Events • C-MORE diversity conference (INTERNAL): students and postdocs from all C-MORE partner institutions • ASLO multicultural program field trip: minority undergrads and grads ALREADY in ocean sciences • ocean TECH (Technology expands career horizons): underrepresented students in grades 6-14 • multiple workshops • KCC summer bridge: underrepresented community college STEM majors • 6 week program • partners • Kamehameha Schools • Na Pua Noe’au • polynesian voyaging society/Hokule’a Worldwide Voyage • SACNAS • SOEST maile mentoring bridge
