First John 1:5-10 • Now this is the message we have heard from Him and declare to you: God is light, and there is absolutely no darkness in Him. • If we say, “We have fellowship with Him,” and walk in darkness, we are lying and are not practicing the truth. • But if we walk in the light as He Himself is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus His Son cleanses us from all sin.

  3. If we say, “We have no sin,” we are deceiving ourselves, and the truth is not in us. • If we confess our sins, He is faithful and righteous to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. • If we say, “We have not sinned,” we make Him a liar, and His word is not in us.

  5. It All Starts with God • 1:5 “Now this is the message we have heard from Him and declare to you: God is light, and there is absolutely no darkness in Him.” Script >

  6. God is Light • God reveals Himself and has nothing to hide • God is pure and doesn’t have a dark side • God is full of splendor, and His holiness is part of His beauty • God’s presence reveals – and to be in His presence makes the dirt show up • God sees and no one can hide . >

  9. What Does it Mean to Walk in Darkness? • That we do not enjoy the light and wish to avoid it • That we have sins to hide and want to avoid being exposed for what we are • That we have chosen a lifestyle, but don’t want to see its danger Def >

  10. Things People Who Walk in Darkness Say • You are soooo intolerant • You are being judgmental • You’re trying to lay a guilt trip on me . >

  22. What Does it Mean to Walk in the Light? • It does not mean sinless perfection • (Or why would the cleansing be needed?) • It means to be unafraid of the light • To come to the light • To enjoy the light • To trust the light to expose what it will • To be free of any controversy with God . >
