Tackling Race Conditions in Job Scheduling: Insights from the SSS Quarterly Meeting

Join us for a deep dive into the complexities of race conditions within scalable systems, highlighted during the SSS Quarterly Meeting hosted by Craig Steffen from August 17-19, 2005. We'll explore the intricate interactions between the Scheduler and B&CM, focusing on how node status changes impact job scheduling and maintenance. Key questions to address include: Should we complicate B&CM’s responsibilities? How should we involve change requests (CR)? Let's collaborate on strategies to manage this scaling challenge effectively.

  1. Scalable Systems Software:Exciting New Race Condition! Craig Steffen SSS Quarterly Meeting August 17-19 2005

  2. S&JM informs Scheduler of node list and status Scheduler schedules jobs based on that information B&CM changes node status B&CM generates events that informs S&JM of this change Job Scheduling and Node Maintainence

  3. What do we do about this? • Do we make the B&CM’s job more complicated? • Do we involve the CR? • This seems to be a problem with greater than linear scaling: HELP!
