Evacuation The children went to school in the morning then marched in long lines to the train or bus station were they were sent to the country Evacuation was when children were moved to a different part of the country. They were moved because of the bombing in towns and cities. • When the children were Evacuated they took: • A gas mask • A sandwich from their mother • A paper bag containing • Spare changes of underwear and night clothes

  4. The causes of ww2 After world war one all the other countries blamed Germany for starting WW2.as a punishment, they made Germany sign the treaty of Versailles. The treaty of Versailles was a important document which had Four rules which they must obey.

  6. phoney war Q1. When and what was the phoney war? The phoney war was at the start of the war when Britain thought that the war was never going to start. It started in September 1939 till April 1940. They stopped carrying there gassy masks and some evacuees went home. This process lasted for six month’s but soon the German forces attacked, Denmark and Norway and then they attacked Britain. This became the Phoney war.

  7. Blitz Q2. What was the blitz? The blitz was when the German forces suddenly attacked the big cities In Britain. This happened night after night the German forces Invaded Britain from September 1940 till may 1941.

  8. Places involved in Blitz Q3. Which cities were involved? These are the cities and towns which were involved, London, Swansea, Cardiff, Bristol, south Hampton, Plymouth, Birmingham, Coventry and Liverpool. In Coventry at November 1940 was the biggest Air-raid the world has ever had

  9. protection Q4. How did the people in Britain protect themselves? They protected themselves by hiding in air-raid shelters. Air-raid shelters were built to help prevent Germans from seeing were the Towns are. A black out was when sources of light Were put out.

  10. Blackout Britain was blacked out on 1st September 1939, two days before the war. During the war, everyone had to cover their windows and doors at night with heavy blackout curtains, cardboard or paint. They needed to prevent any glimmer of light from escaping and aiding enemy aircraft during their bombing raids. Streetlights were switched off ordimmed and shielded to deflect their light downward. Traffic lights and vehicle headlights were fitted with slotted covers to deflect their beam down to the ground. Thousands of people died in road accidents.

  16. Rationing Why was it needed? Rationing was when Britain were getting food, petrol an from other countries, but Germany Cut of the food that was travelling to Britain by bombing the cargo ships which carried the food.

  17. What was it? Rationing was when Britain was short on supplies of food and goods. The people who lived in Britain were all given a ration book to keep track of all the food and other goods that were being rationed. This was so everybody a equal amount of everything.

  18. Who organized it? It was organized by the government in a special department called the Ministry of food.

  19. What was rationed? The things that were rationed were things like *food -tea -sugar -eggs -meat -cheese -butter -ham -bacon But they also rationed things like *petrol *clothes

  22. D-Day D-day was a battle to liberate the French from the Germans. The British had help from the Canadian and the Americans. D-Day started on the 6th June 1944. There were five main landing beaches: Juno Gold Omaha Sword Utah The 'D' in D-Day does not stand for anything, it's a just a name the military use when planning an event. The military started planning the details of the invasion before they knew the date when it would take place. In order to organise things like when the troop ships should leave England they referred to it as D-Day.

The aftermath of D-Day The after math of d-day was when the British, American and Canadiantroops liberated France from German occupation, France celebrated on the streets this was called VE-Day. They liberated France on the 25th of August 1944. The allied troops marched the German troops out of France and into Germany. It took around ten weeks to liberate Paris.
