  3. Port Stephens Community Care • $1.6M HACC provider • NFP company limited by guarantee • 7 board members and 60 members • 34 employees, 240 volunteers • 1,200 clients • North of Newcastle – retirement destination • Rapidly ageing population

  4. What were our challenges? Two funding agreements Community Care Common Standards Competing in a consumer directed market Competition from regional/national/international providers with corporate support Changing client expectations – continuum of care Competing for the shrinking workforce

  5. What were our options? Stay as we were Amalgamate with other similar not-for-profit organisation(s) Amalgamate with another complementary larger organisation with similar values and vision Be taken over by a larger organisation

What was our process? • Increasing Board’s Awareness • Board Briefing • PSCC Aged Care Taskforce • Terms of Reference: • Goals: investigate models and make recommendation • Review Productivity Commission Report • Investigate opportunities and risks • Develop a plan • Communication with stakeholders

  10. Conclusion The “Living Longer Living Better” reforms will effect all aged care providers Amalgamations are one way of ensuring sustainable aged care services in our local communities There are systematic ways to explore your options Act on findings – make an informed decision
