  3. A-GIS and e-ALP | PROCESS 1 PROGRESS AIRPORTS FAA Remote Sensing A-GIS Mission Critical Data AC150/ 5300-16,-17,-18B A-GIS D-BASE COMPLETED IN FY07 Ground Surveys https://airports-gis.faa.gov/ Verification Delineate Features FY09/10: IN Refinement Pilot Program Develop Require-ments Resolve Policy & Process eALP FY09/10: IN Refinement Add Attributes 2 FY09/10: e-ALP beta IN Refinement END USERS END USERS Multi-User Accessible ALP Set Thorough Decision-Making Improved Extensive Planning Improved ALP Co-ordination Efficient Review & Approval NextGen: Net Centric Data Access Greater Design Flexibility

  4. A-GIS Why is FAA developing eALP? https://airports-gis.faa.gov/ • Currency | all NPIAS airports required to keep their ALPs current (many are outdated) • Versioning | paper copies of ALPs are typically housed in multiple locations and the “latest” version(s) often vary eALP • Accuracy | plotted ALPs frequently contain airport information that differs from airports data collected for use in other LOBs and/or other airport projects • NextGen | needs real-time, web-based access of the same (“living” document) version by all stakeholders • Diligence | efficient use of updated, precise data (input into A-GIS) for optimal NextGen airport planning, reporting, and decision making

  5. Benefits of the End-State A-GIS/eALP Federal Aviation Administration Airport Sponsors Air Carriers / Pilots

  6. Remote Sensing A-GIS Mission Critical Data Ground Surveys https://airports-gis.faa.gov/ Validation LOOKING FORWARD | A-GIS • Initial roll-out of A-GIS pilot program happening in the Southwest Region; other regions to follow

  7. Airports Develop Data

  8. FAA & NGS Validate Data

  9. FAA & Airports Use Data – On Line

  10. FAA & Airports Use Data – Off Line

  11. Three “ACs” Define the Requirements = Geodetic Control = Imagery = GIS Data

  13. Got Metadata? • Source & Quality at “project” level • Version & Status in Attributes

  14. FAA Airports-GIS Metadata Needs • Airports change so should the data • Constant construction and maintenance • Natural changes also need to be recorded • Use sources of varying qualities • Different versions of the specs • Contacts needed for validation • Easy and intuitive to populate

  15. Metadata Needed at Different Levels

  16. Focus on Key Elements at Each Level
