  14. Officer Positions • Why you should run • Professional networking • One on one face time with Deans of Admission • Security • Fun funfun!

  15. Officer Positions • How HOSA works: • An officer in “good standing” of his position is allowed to keep his position for the next year • An officer in “poor standing” must run and be re-elected if desiring to keep his position • An officer wanting to change chairs must run and be elected

  16. Officer Elections • How HOSA works cont. • A new officer for any chair must run and be elected • Only current officers can run for President • The runner up(s) for Presidency become Senior Advisor for HOSA and aid the President in the decision making

  17. Officers • Logistics • “fills in the gaps” of HOSA • Must know how to do a little bit of everything • Will plan events, organize meetings, and assume full chair positions if designated officer is unavailable or performing poorly as an officer • Ex. Logistics officer is responsible for planning volunteer events if VP is not creating enough

  18. Officers • Webmaster + Historian • Responsible for ALL the member records of HOSA • Strongly favored to have some computer science knowledge/skills • Responsible for the clarity and up to date information of the website, sign up sheets, and an accurate roster

  19. Officer • Social Director • Makes HOSA fun  • Organizes events for members to enjoy each other’s company and create cohesion in the group • Must be budget conscience and creative in planning fun but reasonably priced socials

  20. Officers • Secretary • Excellent networking skills • Invites and organizes all the speakers for the general meetings • Must have a wide knowledge of community resources for a variety of professional speakers

  21. Officers • Treasurer • Pristine integrity!!! • As one of the cardholders to the bank, your honesty and integrity must be undoubted • Money savvy and budget conscious! • Find discounts, untaxed instances, and great deals • Proactive in UT fundraising events • Sign up for ushering is very competitive among student orgs! You are responsible for ensuring HOSA gets a spot! Be aware of these events!

  22. Officers • Vice President • ALL volunteer events • VP shapes the community service aspect of HOSA • Very demanding position • Since HOSA members are required to do many hours of volunteering, VP must be able to provide nearly double the hours each semester • Professional, resourceful, and creative • Constant communication with community leaders and organizations • Provide meaningful opportunities with wide variety

  23. Officers • President • Shapes the organization • Facilitates the progress of the group • Must have a firm grasp on every aspect of HOSA • Cooperative, professional, and great time management skills • Very demanding officer position • Manages the bureaucratic aspect of HOSA: • Kaplan, SALD, HPO, CNS

  24. Reconsider running if you… • Think this will be a resume booster • Are shy and quiet • Only seek the perks of being an officer of a health organization • Are a “pre-med whore”……. • Are unwilling to work with others Being an officer requires dedication, cooperation, patience, and enthusiasm <3

  25. So if you… • Are personable and professional • Genuinely caring and ambitious • Great at managing your time and know of many community resources • Enthusiastic and creative • Look great in business attire(!) You should run for an officer position!!!!

  26. Officer Elections • If you want to run for an officer position email Michelle • Have a brief, concise speech prepared for the 6th GM • If you won’t be there for the 6th GM you CAN still run! • Record/videotape your speech? • An officer reads your speech? • It can be done! Just let Michelle know and we’ll make the appropriate arrangements 

  27. Next Time • Last General Meeting: Tuesday May 3rd 7pm WEL 2.312 • Last day to bring in cans and toys for the semester! • Turn in your outside volunteer hours • Email Michelle about officer elections and Kaplan scholarships • GET EXCITED FOR BANQUET!!!!!!
