Involve girls (or traditionally under represented backgrounds) in science Use peer education to directly involve select girls, but also get public to see women in science Involve girls in a project that they can complete Increase overall physical science awareness of public…exhibits for public venues and eventually the Buffalo Museum of Science Overall Goals

Students • MOST IMPORTANT NEED TO BE MOTIVATED TO PARTICIPATE!!!! • Some interest in math and science, B students ok if they are highly motivated • Prefer all girls, but quality and motivation important. Boys also welcome if from traditional under represented groups (mainly African American and hispanic) • 8-11 grades ok. Want kids who are not already on the science track, but may be thinking about it.

  6. Teacher Mentor • Needs to be present for all daily meetings with girls • Needs to be able to meet with me occasionally to discuss plans for the meetings with girls • Outreach experience a real help

  7. Schedule • Trip to Ontario Museum of Science • Daily meetings at UB • Planning construction, arranging for display venues • Buying materials • Working on graphics, send out for printing • Assembly of Demo • First exhibit in Elmwood Festival or Zoo • Exhibits will continue throughout the academic year and then will be donated to Buffalo Museum of science

  8. Discussion Topics • Transportation for the participants? • Physics topics/math that YOU think would be ideal • ……
