  1. Are You Prepared For Battle?Joshua 5:1-15 Bellaire church of Christ February 19, 2012

  2. Are You Prepared For Battle?Joshua 5:1-15 GET RIGHT WITH GOD At heart, every battle we fight is a spiritual battle. Paul wrote, “For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms.”  (Eph. 6:12)

  3. Are You Prepared For Battle?Joshua 5:1-15 GET RIGHT WITH GOD We are told, “They were still uncircumcised because they had not been circumcised on the way. 8 And after the whole nation had been circumcised, they remained where they were in camp until they were healed.” (Joshua 5:7-8)

  4. Are You Prepared For Battle?Joshua 5:1-15 GET RIGHT WITH GOD 1.Since this was a time when they were often traveling circumcision was impractical.  (However, circumcision was conducted on infants 8 days old so it would not have hampered travel). 2.It was a further sign of the rebellion in the heart of the people. 3. God told them not to do so because his covenant blessing had been withdrawn from them.

  5. Are You Prepared For Battle?Joshua 5:1-15 GET RIGHT WITH GOD The second thing that took place in the desert was a celebration of the Passover.  “The day after the Passover, that very day, they ate some of the produce of the land: unleavened bread and roasted grain. 12 The manna stopped the day after they ate this food from the land; there was no longer any manna for the Israelites, but that year they ate of the produce of Canaan.” (v.11-12)

  6. Are You Prepared For Battle?Joshua 5:1-15 GET RIGHT WITH GOD The chief lesson is: We are not prepared to do battle with the giants of life until we have first become right with God.

  7. Are You Prepared For Battle?Joshua 5:1-15 GET RIGHT WITH GOD REMEMBER YOU ARE NOT ALONE  13 “Now when Joshua was near Jericho, he looked up and saw a man standing in front of him with a drawn sword in his hand. Joshua went up to him and asked, ‘Are you for us or for our enemies?’” 14 “Neither,” he replied, “but as commander of the army of the Lord I have now come.” Then Joshua fell facedown to the ground in reverence, and asked him, “What message does my Lord have for his servant?” 15 The commander of the Lord’s army replied, “Take off your sandals, for the place where you are standing is holy.” And Joshua did so.  [Joshua 5:13-15]

  8. Are You Prepared For Battle?Joshua 5:1-15 GET RIGHT WITH GOD REMEMBER YOU ARE NOT ALONE  However, Elisha said, 16 “Don’t be afraid,” the prophet answered. “Those who are with us are more than those who are with them.” 17 And Elisha prayed, “O Lord, open his eyes so he may see.” Then the Lord opened the servant’s eyes, and he looked and saw the hills full of horses and chariots of fire all around Elisha.
