Controls On/Off Controls Fan Relay Timing • Call for humidity – Fan relay closes and fan turns on • 10 second delay – Humidifier relay closes and unit begins to humidify • Humidity demand satisfied – Humidifier relay opens and unit stops humidifying • 90 second delay – Fan relay opens and fan turns off

Controls Modulating Controls Principle of Operation % RH Modulating Proportional Band A On/Off Time (t) Set Point B Note: Set point in middle of dead band • Humidity is below point B - unit is on 100% • Humidity rises above Set-point - unit ramps down • Humidity drops below Set-point - unit ramps up • The space between A & B is the proportional band

The set point is typically located within the middle of this range.

  26. 100% OA, Economizer, and VAV Systems Controls • On/Off Vs. Modulating High Limit • Humidification load varies with the outside air conditions • On/Off high limits work well as long as the OA is relatively stable and dry • Increase in RH of OA could lead to: • Wet duct • Short cycling of the humidifier • Modulating HL adjusts the output of the humidifier as required to maintain conditions in the duct
