Department of Applied Physics The Hong Kong Polytechnic University News & Events (2009-01~03) 01-01-2009:Happy New Year! 01-05-2009:Dr. Wang attended “Advances in Microfluidics and Nanofluidics” at HKUST and gave an invited talk. ZHANG Kai, ZHAO Libo and CHENG Wei also attended the conference. 01-08-2009:Prof. OUYANG Qi paid a short visit to our group and made discussions on microfluidic research with Dr. Wang and microfluidic research people. 01-13-2009:A papertitled “Enhanced ferromagnetic ordering in GdBaCo2O5.5+δ thin films on SrTiO3 (001) substrate" (by Dr. WANG Guoyu et al) appears at arXiv.org (e-Print). The paper has also been submitted to PRB. 01-13-2009:Prof. CHI Lifeng paid a short visit to our group and made discussions with Drs. WANG Yu and WANG Guoyu. 01-26-2009:Happy Niu Year! 02-01-2009:YU Xuelian’s papertitled “Novel gas sensoring materials based on CuS hollow spheres” is published in the February issue of Microporous and Mesoporous Materials (V118, pp.423-26). 02-14-2009:Wang Danyang’s papertitled “Influence of oxygen partial pressure on the structural and dielectric properties of Ba(Zr0.3Ti0.7)O3 thin films grown on (LaAlO3)0.3(Sr2AlTaO6)0.35 (001) using pulsed laser deposition" is published in the February issue of Thin Solid Films (V517, pp.2092-98). 02-15-2009:A papertitled “Hydrogen-induced degradation in SrTiO3-based grain boundary barrier layer ceramic capacitors" (Authors - Z.J.Shen, W.P.Chen, K.Zhu, Y.Zhuang, Y.M.Hu, Y.Wang, H.L.W. Chan) appears in the February issue of Ceramics International (V35, pp.953-56). 03-02-2008:Welcome!Mr. WEI Tong has joined the group. Wei Tong is a Ph.D. student in Nanjing University (supervisor: Prof. Liu J.M.). At AP, he will be working on STO-based quantum paraelectric materials.  Back to “News & Events” Page 1

Department of Applied Physics The Hong Kong Polytechnic University 03-03-2009:A papertitled “Anisotropic-strain induced monoclinic distortion and robust charge-ordering in ultrathin Pr0.5Sr0.5MnO3 single-crystalline films” (Authors - Z.Z.Yin, Z.Huang, G.Y.Gao, W.B.Wu, G.Y.Wang and Y.Wang) appears in the March 21 issue of Journal of Physics D – Applied Physics (Vol.32, p.062004). 03-04-2009:YU Xuelian’s paper“Synthesis and Magnetic Characterizations of Three-Dimensional Iron Sulfide Nanostructures” is published in the March issue of Crystal Growth and Design (V9, p.1293-96). 03-04-2009:ZOU Y.N.’s papertitled “Optical properties of octahedral KTaO3 nanocrystalline" is to be published in the May 15 issue of Materials Chemistry and Physics (Vol.115, p.151-3). 03-06-2009:Bye!Mr. ZHAO Li Bo returned to Wuhan today. He will continue his Ph.D. study in Wuhan University. 03-09-2009:Bye!Dr. ZHAI Huazhang returned to Beijing today. 03-16-2009:Dr. ZHAI Huazhang’s paper“One-step synthesis of orientation accumulation SiC-C coaxial nanocables at low temperature“ (DOI:10.1039/b820954e), accepted for publication in Journal of Materials Chemistry, is now available online (HTML version only). 03-25-2008:Welcome!Mr. Pierre ALLAIN joined our group today. Mr. ALLAIN is from Universite Paris – Sud XI and will work at PolyU, as Research Assistant, for five months. He will conduct research on nanotechnology and microfluidic systems, under the joint supervision of Dr. WANG, Profs. Helen CHAN and Yong CHEN (Paris).  Back to “News & Events” Page 1
