  2. “If you are going to fulfill your purpose, some house cleaning is in order”

  3. I Peter 2:1 Therefore, rid yourselves of all malice and all deceit, hypocrisy, envy, and slander of every kind.

  4. Junk that Kills our relationships • malice (kakian) is wicked ill-will; • deceit (dolon) is deliberate dishonesty; • hypocrisy (hypokriseis), pretended piety and love; • envy (phthonous), resentful discontent; • slander (katalalias), backbiting lies.

  5. “None of these should have any place in the lives of those who are born again” • malice (kakian) is wicked ill-will; • deceit (dolon) is deliberate dishonesty; • hypocrisy (hypokriseis), pretended piety and love; • envy (phthonous), resentful discontent; • slander (katalalias), backbiting lies.

  6. "Envy is resenting God's goodness to others and ignoring God's goodness to me."

  7. Out with the Junk!

  8. The word “put away” or “rid yourselves” ἀποτίθημι it means ‘to cease doing what one is accustomed to doing’, or ‘stop living the way you did formerly’ as in Ephesians 4:22.

  9. In with the Word!

  10. I Peter 2:2-3 2Like newborn babies, crave pure spiritual milk, so that by it you may grow up in your salvation, 3 now that you have tasted that the Lord is good.

  11. Λογικός logikos “rational, genuine, true”

  12. How is filling ourselves with the Word of God the antidote to jealousy, envy, deceit?

  13. We can’t just leave space empty, we have to fill it with something good.

  14. Matthew 12:43–45 “When an evil spirit comes out of a man, it goes through arid places seeking rest and does not find it. 44 Then it says, ‘I will return to the house I left.’ When it arrives, it finds the house unoccupied, swept clean and put in order. 45 Then it goes and takes with it seven other spirits more wicked than itself, and they go in and live there. And the final condition of that man is worse than the first. That is how it will be with this wicked generation.”

  15. Get rid of Junk, but don’t leave the space empty, fill it with the Word.

  19. It wasn’t enough to be rescued, they had to walk to freedom

  20. To be rescued from something sets us on the path toward something.

  21. Peter is telling us that we need to have a new passion, a new desire, and that desire to immerse our lives in the true spiritual milk of the Word of God.
