  4. Correlative Conjunctions • Correlative conjunctions are pairs of conjunctions both…and not only…but also either…or whether…or neither…nor For example: • BothLady Gaga and Adele are famous singers. • Should I have eithersalad or cake for lunch? and both

  5. Interjections • An interjection is a word that expresses emotion. • Aha • Ouch • Wow • Yikes • Yippee • Oops • Hey • Hi Oops!

  6. In addition… • When interjections are used alone, they do NOT form a complete sentence, so in formal writing they are usually used as part of a sentence. • However, interjections are not grammatically connected to the sentence. • Their only function is to express emotion.

  7. A few examples: • Drat! I spilled my coffee! (expresses anger or annoyance) • Oh dear, I’m going to be late. (expresses worry) • You got 100% on the test! Wow! (expresses surprise)
