Findings : • The number of fatalities on the roads of Oman is a factor 4 higher than the best countries in the world. • The number of vehicles on the roads is still rising rapidly (8%/year) • The number of road accidents increased over 2000/01 but the number of fatalities was lower than the previous years.
Findings : • Rollovers are real killers: the fatality rate for rollovers is a factor 4 higher than for collision. • Accidents with pedestrians have a higher risk of fatality: the pedestrian is NOT protected.
20-25% of fatalities are pedestrians ! Fatality rate for pedestrian is higher than driver/passenger
Findings: • Muscat and Batina are the regions with most traffic and most incidents. • The fatality rate in the area’s outside Muscat is much higher, especially Batina and Dakhaliah. Probably because the speeds are higher on these roads with less traffic.
