  1. Enhanced Performance of Model Based PID Controller for Process Industry Model Based Analytical IMC-PID Controller Design ◆ Simulation study of the proposed method ◆A design method for a PID cascaded witha lead-lag compensator for the second-order processes with time delay. PID cascaded witha lead-lag compensator IMC-PID Controller Design for SOPDT Process λ guidelines:It is suggested that robust control performance can be achieved by considering the starting value of λ to be equal to the process time delay. If the selected λ does not satisfy the performance and robust stability criteria, then λ is monotonously increased or decreased on–line until the desirable trade–off between performance and its robust stability is achieved. ◆Conclusions The proposed method covered a broad class of second–order stable and unstable processes with time delay and consistently achieved superior performance for several classes of processes. Remark :A robust control performance was achieved by using a value of 0.1b instead of b. On-Line PI/PID Controller Tuning for Closed-Loop ◆ Motivation • To avoid the time consuming procedures of the plant test and further controller tuning. The control personals makes an effort for on-line controller tuning. In on-line tuning the response data are used to estimate tuning parameters. ◆ Main Objectives A new method for on-line controller tuning has been developed based on experimental test performed during closed-loop operation. • Process divided in three groups for on-line tuning • Stable (first order, second and higher order with time delay) • Integrating with time delay • Unstable process (first and higher order with time delay) Summary: Several simple mathematical relations have been developed for the integral and derivative time constant. The simulation is conducted for a broad class of processes and results shows a significant improvement in on-line tuning.
