Housing and Urban Programs • Housing Policy • Government first becomes involved in housing during the Great Depression • Federally funded loan programs allowed home owners and farmers to keep their land if they could not pay their mortgages in the short term • Housing Act of 1949 was passed to try to increase the ability of Americans to purchase homes
