  3. AA • Enter Quietly • Today is Monday – Reading Day. Every student will read and complete text dependent questions on their reading. • I will explain.

  4. Monday, March 24 • No communication • Tonight’s HW: Complete USA TEST PREP assignments. • Do Now: Finish Reading and text coding “Should Chimps Have Rights” • Do you think animals such as chimpanzees are smarter than humans. Are animals really capable of having human characteristics?

Tuesday, March 25 • Good Morning – No Communication • Tonight’s HW: SS / LA Complete USA TEST PREP assignments One - Three. • Do Now: • (3) Write three things you learned about author’s argument. • (2) Write two things an author’s argument must contain. • (1) Write one question you still have about author’s argument or something you do not understand.

Author’s Argument • Ask yourself, “Is the author writing about a controversial issue?” • Ask yourself, “What is the author’s position on the issue?” • Ask yourself, “What does the author take for granted?” • If the author’s assumptions are illogical or incorrect, the entire argument will be flawed.

  8. Author’s Argument • Ask yourself, “What kind of support does the author present to back the argument?” • Support can include research findings, case studies, personal experience or observation, examples, facts, comparisons, expert testimony and opinions.

  9. Ask yourself, “Is the support directly related to the argument?” • Ask yourself, “Does the author present facts and clear evidence as support?”

Vocabulary Words – Owl • Eradicated (P.7) (of a tree or plant) depicted with the roots exposed.To eliminate or destroy (something harmful). • Ornithology – Concerned with the study of birds • Enthusiasts – (p. 7) A person who is highly interested in a particular activity or subject. • Fragmented (p. 10)To break or cause to break into fragments. Broken into separate parts.

Vocabulary – Owl • Peregrine falcon - break or cause to break into fragments. • Conservation - The act of conserving; prevention of injury, decay, waste, or loss; preservation: conservation of wildlife; conservation of human rights. • Eviction (p. 14) - to expel (a person, especially a tenant) from land, a building, etc., by legal process, as for nonpayment of rent. Synonyms: eject, remove, dispossess, dislodge.

Urban – pertaining to city or town Urbanization (p.8) Suburban (p.16) - The meaning of a suburban area is a residential or district located on the outskirts of the city. It is bounded by major cities and characteristically made up.

  13. Vocabulary • Urbanization (p.8) – to make more industrialized. To cause migration of an increasing number of people into the city.
