Lack of Adequate Data • A 2009 publication by Charles Drew University School of Medicine/UCLA Assessed the 2710 Responses from 36 Medical Schools in the 2004/5 School Year • At Risk Drinking= 18% • Binge Drinking(Monthly basis)=20% • British Medical Journal Studied Alcohol Use/Abuse Among US Medical Student Graduating in 2004 and How Likely They Were to Counsel Patients About Alcohol Use Found Similar Use and Less Counseling with More Drinking

My Study Based on American College Health Association’s (ACHA) National College Health Assessment II(NCHA) • NCHA to Georgetown Undergraduate Students Every Other Year, and Used Nationally for 10 years • Proposed Study Takes Questions Related to Alcohol and Drug Use and Stress from the NCHA to Make A Targeted Survey • Goals: • To Assess Levels of Medical Student Alcohol and Substance Abuse, and Possible Changes or Differences From Previous Studies • To Differentiate Drinking Patterns Of Medical Students Depending on Year in School
