  2. Maryland (mâr'ələnd), one of the Middle Atlantic states of the United States. It is bounded by Delaware and the Atlantic Ocean, the District of Columbia, Virginia and West Virginia, and Pennsylvania.

  3. A seaboard state, E Maryland is divided by Chesapeake Bay.The main part of the state is divided by the fall line, which runs between the upper end of Chesapeake Bay and Washington, D.C

  4. Annapolis is a cosmopolitan American city with a small-town atmosphere. For more than 350 years it has played an integral part in national affairs. The city has long been the site of the U.S.

  5. Naval Academy, and marine activities remain a vital part of community life. Despite being home to high-tech industries and modern businesses, the city has managed to maintain its seventeenth-century charm. Visitors can enjoy the more than three centuries of American architecture on display there.

  6. Baltimore, with a large percentage of the state's population, is the dominant metropolis. Tourists are attracted to the Antietam National Battlefield and the National Cemetery at Sharpsburg

  7. Maryland is a major center for life sciences research and development. With more than 350 biotechnology companies located there, Maryland is the third-largest nexus in this field in the United States
